What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Well the P.O. of my new to me 2000 2wd 2.7L had no records of maintenance except for "I had the oil changed regularly" so today I started by cleaning the MAF and TB. The latter was extremely dirty.

Checked the plugs and they looked pretty fried so I grabbed some new densos from the dealership and will swap them in tomorrow.

Also scanned my CEL and it appears to be a p420 code so I'll start by swapping in a new downstream o2 sensor and hope that does the trick. If not I'll look at doing something about the cat.

Will try and change the rear diff oil this week too.

Did it run any better? I should probably do mine.

Didn't get around to do them yet. Had to work on my other 4runner.

Replaced aging rear upper control arms with some new ones from Napa and a fresh set of wiper blades. Being using bosch icons but gonna try the Michelin stealth blades from Costco.

Had been putting off the rear upper control arm swap for some time now but was a lot easier than I expected. 40 min start to finish.

Took a coworker to look at a 2000 Limited 4wd for his daughter. Clean, 200k, timing and water pump recently done. The poster on CL mentioned nothing about the locker in the ad, in fact I am not sure he knew it was there. Weird, especially for someone who did change out the belt himself.

But April and her dad opted for the 2003 Pathfinder, one owner, 4wd, with only 108k on the odometer.

Changed the spark plugs in the wife's 2000 2wd 3RZ-FE. First time doing the job on the 4cylinder and what quick and easy job that was. Not that the 3.4L is that difficult but I had them all swapped in 30 min taking my time. The ones in there were toast. Used Denso plugs, 19 bucks for all 4 pre gapped from the dealer.

After 5 good years and many smiles, I passed my 3rd Gen along to a new owner. Definitely a little sad about it, but at least I'm still in the 4runner family with its new big brother.

Today I saw a brand new Tacoma. And right behind it was a older tundra. In size. They were both basically identical. Except didn't the old tundra come with a v8?

Thanks, I'm really happy with it so far. Really can't wait to get it up in the mountains and get it dirty.

I got a 4th gen for my daughter with the V8 and it is really nice, but the 4.0 in the 5th gen isn't bad at all. Both of them feel a world better than the 3rd gen V6, which always felt to me like it was "working" when you pushed it hard.

It feels much bigger and plusher than the 3rd gen all around. When driving the 4th gen, it still feels like a slightly bigger, cushier 3rd gen, but the 5th gen is a whole different animal. Not in a bad way at all, just different.
