Got inspired to do some thorough spring cleaning after watching this video: https://youtu.be/CoHTK5REZaQ so I cleaned the engine, wheels, tires, undercarriage and suspension, then washed it, clay barred the hood and windshield and re washed with OCD mode turned on, then dried it, polished the hood, and waxed everything (including all of the paint in the door jambs... all of it). :girl:

Thanks y’all. I used duplicolor self etching primer, graphite wheel paint, and wheel clearcoat.

It took me about 7 hours all said and done, but I had a lot of corrosion to remove. I used both a brass brush cup and this scotchbrite-ish wheel in my drill and then 320 grit sandpaper. Masked, wiped with paint thinner, then 3 coats of primer, 4 coats of color, and 2 coats of clear. .

Nice result. Did you color sand the paint before clearing to get the dust off?

Also, how do you like those Firestone Destination M/T tires?

No, I just sprayed the clear. There are still some imperfections from the original paint (I didn't completely strip the wheels, just the bad spots) and pitting from corrosion, so I didn't think it was worth the time. I may regret that, but the first rock chip maybe won't hurt so bad this way, haha.

As for the tires, I've not had a chance to get them in the dirt yet, but other than being deafeningly loud, like don't-roll-the-windows-down-without-earplugs-loud, they've got pretty good road manners. I got them on craigslist almost new on JK rubicon wheels for $600 for the set, so I'm happy with them for what I paid. Maybe new ones that are worn evenly won't be so loud. If they work good in the dirt though, I won't be able to complain too much.

Very nicely done, I love it. You have any pics of the grille mod in action? Have not heard of modding a 99 grille before.

I don't sorry. I'm real bad about stopping and taking photos I get in the groove. Essentially I cut everything out what makes it look weird on the 99 grill is the taper it has and the center support bulges out.
I used a heat gun heating the plastic under the chrome so I could bend it to the general shape of the grill so all the lines were clean. Then I taped it off and used bondo jelly and added enough so I could sand everything down to a fine line and get the shape I wanted.

It's pretty similar to [MENTION=140991]sam.basye[/MENTION] did with his but I cut the bottom off my old one previously for my winch so did the same thing on this one and cut out the sheet to fit over the top of the housing.

Put on a new OEM brake pedal pad, there was nothing on the pedal before, just metal..slippery when wet. Nothing exciting, just a 8$ part, but it’s the little things that add to the overall enjoyment of this thing.

Picked up some spidertrax spacer from someone on the socal4runner page. He was kind enough to go out and buy some Loctite as well as give them a good cleaning. they look brand new.

I looked at a local recycling yard, they got a new 3rd gen in. They can't pull any parts yet, they need the title to do the salvage certificate before they can "dismantle" it. This isn't a pick and pull, it's a commercial yard that mainly deals with repair/body shops.

Anyway, once they can officially take it apart, I've got dibs on a nice steering wheel, the correct color of wood-grain for the upper bezel, a near perfect center console pad and perfect floor mats.

I also looked at an '05 at a local dealership. It's priced reasonably and it only has 116K on it, I'm very tempted to drive it...

I just started my front end rebuild tonight. First up was the steering rack bushings. All the old ones are out and ready for the new pieces tomorrow. Also doing LBJs, outer tie rods (possibly inner too if they're loose), new endlink bushings, and a set of Tundra brakes.

Hopefully all this will solve the clunking I'm hearing over bumps, but if not I'll be ordering a pair of 5100s as well. Pics tomorrow, tonight was way too greasy to handle my phone, haha.

timing belt and everything with it. cam and crank seals (all Asian or yota as available).plus false water pump(new Asian), fan clutch(asian), a/c idler pulley( yota), alternator brushes(yota), synthetic lubed my door locks, all hinges, sunroof cables
