Got the old girl back from the shop. Installed URD 7th Injector kit, re geared to 5.29 f/r, rebuilt my axles, innovative boost a/f gauge and alignment. Also installed the 4Runner4Leon hood struts. One of my favorite mods.

Shortly after leaving the shop, the check engine light came on. Its been coming on since I installed the SC. Its coming up (bank 1 knock sensor), so i figured the 7th injector kit would fix but it popped up again. I figured it gone bad, at 275k and being a 20 year car...its time to be replaced. Crossing my fingers that's the last of the issues so i can finally enjoy it. Been wanting to visit family in Salt Lake so that'll be a nice drive to stretch her legs.

That's a cool looking headlight projector conversion. Can you share where you got them (or the parts for the conversion)?

Installed the '00 center console I pulled from the scrap yard the other day.

Looks better cleaned up than the day I got it. ha! Still unsure if I'll like it simply because I was used to the larger tray to keep change/sunglasses/etc in. Plus the edge right near the shift frame has a veryyy small gap.
I suppose I can alway switch back if I hate it. (ignore the towels, I use those wrapped over my floor mats for rainy weather so I can just throw them in the wash to clean)

For what it's worth to others doing this swap... the e-brake bucket from the '97 will work for the '00 e-brake It rubs juuuuuust slightly. Like, barely rubs the metal tab that holds the brake line in place.

I went JY scrounging on Sat and found the CV joint end of the rear driveshaft just sitting inside of the "donor", so I tested the joint and was happy with it so it followed me home. I dropped the "rebuilt" DS that has never been right ever since A1-driveline mucked with the CV joint last year.

I swapped the rear pinion flange section onto the JY shaft, bolted it up and went for a drive. No more vibrations !! This is after having A1 driveline go over it twice and assuring me that everything was ok, no problems with their work. A darn $35 junkyard part works better then their "rebuilt" CV joint, go figure !

It Happens

Got in an ice sliding accident. Insurance appraiser came today so I will hear soon what it is all worth. Hoping for some good news as of course this has been stressful. Pictures show that I removed everything from the front to see the real damage (sawzall and brute force required).

Which aftermarket did you go with?

HG gasket doing Ok?

I am with you, I can’t tell you how much I miss the “Like” button. Grr.

Nice. I have a bushing in one that needs replacing. May just replace both. Return with an update by the summer if they are worth the green :dancin:

After the 3,000 mile wheeling/on-road trip in late July-ish would be a good update time.
I needed bushings all around, it was just that little tiny bit more to upgrade
(I told my husband, using his Volvo parts multiplier. :tongue1: )

That's totalled for sure.

Mark, can you elaborate? Of course I'm hesitant to total it but I would appreciate your thoughts on the end of the frame rail. I really don't care about the back. The damage there is mostly aesthetic once I replace the brake light. I'm more worried about the front damage and being able to get a new bumper on; potentially an aftermarket that requires cutting and welding.

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

It is totalled in the insurance sense. That is multiple thousands in damage - realistically it would require a replacement frame to meet factory specs. No insurance company will pay to have this repaired.

If you want a winter beater or a trail truck - get a frame section and weld it together (after you buy it back and get the salvaged title). If you want a nice truck - part it out and get a new one.

Thanks Charlie. I'm getting a quote in the next few days for that exact work (replace the front of the frame rails). Definitely not worried about it being nice. I want to run this thing to the ground. I got the offer for total loss as well as the offer for salvage buy back. They are decent offers; so I'll get the frame repair quote and we'll see what happens.

What Charlie said. It will have salvage title but sure buy it back and fix it up to be a trail beater. The frame might need straightening which isn't cheap. Everything else can be bodged together.

Mine is coming together ok. I still need to take it back to the frame shop because the front body mounts are out by 1/2". I'll use screws to put the front end in (already in position, just needs to be secured for the drive over). Put the lights in and mount the transmission cooler because i dont trust the radiator in case of a pink milkshake.

My frame was in good shape except for the slight buckle I didn't notice. Frame guy fixed that but created the other problem.

I was wondering, what happens to the engine mounts when the frame bends like this? Do they get mangled with forces on them so if you were to remove the engine they wouldn't line up for putting a new one in? Also I read somewhere recently here that bad engine mounts can screw up the transmission shifting. Could that happen from frame shape-shifting?

It just took a lot of time to bring it back. I understand why they are so quick to total these things considering labour costs, and paying full price for OEM parts. If I was to sell it I wouldnt make much. But this one is for me. And now I can say I did it.
