Used this past weekend to try and replace pads and rotors in the front and do an oil change, only to realize I didn't have a 1/2" drive 17mm socket for the caliper mounting bolts. :doh: Replaced the pads and did the oil change so now next week when I'm off (since I'm on a bi-weekly schedule now, damn you COVID...) I'll use my time to reseal my transmission pan, since it's leaking. I also will need to figure out what's going on with my oil pan drain plug as I had to use a socket plus a flathead between the seal and bolt to get it out.

I'm assuming previous owner had stripped it, or whoever worked on it previously. :rant:

Do you have a pic of where the lock is attached to the rear hatch? Mine is loose, like its mounting bracket is broken or loose.

I just Jb welded the plastic bolts holes where it screws into, its a common problem

If your using a screwdriver to pry down to get it to unthread, my worry would be that one day it might not go back in.

the pan drain bolt is easy to strip out. It is not worth trying to rethread and if I remember, so thin a helicoil might not work. However if your pulling the pan, ive read where others have drilled it out and welded in a larger nut and gone to a bigger ( not much) drain plug.
Also the pan bolts to block are sensitive to stripping...just dont be a gorilla.

there are likely threads ( no pun intended) on this forum for stripped pan drain repair, also recently for replacement of filter

I decided to change the windshield washer nozzle on the rig. Might be late to the game on this one but it is a small change but the fan pattern on this makes a big difference compared to the two small streams. Yes, I know its a honda part but it fits flawlessly and looks OEM. Lmk if yall want a video, couldn't upload it on here or I don't know how haha.

yeah, take the back panels off, disconnect the electrical connectors, disconnect the lock rod from the lock and the hatch handle, there are 3 nuts, and 4 plastic clips and your 2 license plate bolts and it just pulls off

Luckily I got it back in, it just doesnt torque down at all, just spins and spins. No leaks so far from the bolt yet... pressing my luck though. So I'm probably going to just end up with a whole new pan, I just want to make sure that it's the pan that's stripped and not just the bolt, before I purchase.

Considering some homeless lowlife went around slashing tires yesterday and managed to hit my runner as well as a coworkers car, I might have to wait even longer for the pan now that I have to get two new tires...

Finally installed my new brake booster from Rock auto. at a price of $165ish shipped to my house. Fairly straight forward install, took about a hour, do yourself a favor and undo some stuff around the firewall. No need to crack any brake lines, master cylinder unbolts and moves freely enough out of the way.

Installed sun visors from a 2004 runner, I had to chop the mounting hole out and rotate it 90 degrees and jb weld it back in but I got non crusty worn out visors now with pull out extensions

I have a 98 with the visors that had a chrome metal rod with a spring and toothed grip washer, I think the later 3rd gens moved to the plastic rod with a groove in it that locked into the mount. The rod size on my visors was sized differently(I think its was smaller) from the 2004s so my original mounts wouldn't work. Also the mount on the 2004 is rotated 90 degrees from how the mount is on my 98 and its held into the mount with metal eclip.
So I used a dremel and cut the center tube out of the mount on the 2004 mount, I rotated it 90 degress and jb welded it. The 2004 mount fits into the 98 ceiling with the same screws, it just doesn't sit completely flush because the screw holes on the back of the 2004 mount stick up a little but I think I can grind them down a little, but for now its not really noticeable.
I think the 4th gens changed design on the visors on the later year models, I think the whole visor extends instead of the pull out extensions mine has, I'm unsure if those have a different mount.
I also forgot to grab the clips from the donor for the other side of the visor, they have more of a higher base on them so the clip sits further away from the headliner, right now if I rotate the visor down is rubs a little on the headliner but not a big deal for now.
Not bad for $10 a piece from pull part instead of ebay $100 for one.

Making progress with my Satoshi grille mod, even though it's taking way longer than it should. I bought the mesh from customcargrills.com - it's pretty nice and heavy duty, though I did have to make more mods to it than I would have expected given that it's supposed to be a premade grille for the 4Runner. Looks good in the end though.

Now to try it in the truck. I hope I like the black frame, and don't decide that it'd be better in body color, which is white.
