EVAP sys

Replaced EVAP cannister assy due to MIL's P0446 & P0440.

Long story short, had to do this to pass state emissions test allowing me to renew my annual tags.

Holy that was a long repair..
Oil pan gasket redone.
Dropped front differential.. think I Need to go to a confession booth the amount I sweared getting that thing off..
Right lbj.
Valve cover gaskets, timing belt and water pump..

All because of a dumba$$ oil catch can that flooded and backed up the pcv... for those that have them .. just don't let them full up .. I learned the hard way... oh well.. truck is good for another 100... and I can stop looking at those over priced used tacomas idiots keep advertising with 100k and $10k above a new one..

Good to see others hang on to their older vehicles.

My 2002 SR5 will turn 20 this November.

I don't remember my dad hanging on to any car for 20yrs.

Yep, I’ve been eyeballing a face lifted 2nd gen doublecab 4WD from 2012-2015 as a new daily driver and not willing to pay the $5-$10k Toyota tax that people are asking. $25-35k for a 10 year old truck with 150k-200k miles… no thanks! New 3rd gen Taco is around upper 30’s so I can wait for them to come down a bit! 3rd gen Tacos are on a whole other level with stupid asking prices.

1 X STARTER KIT, MOTOR TERMINAL - 28226-72010
1 X STARTER KIT, BATTERY TERMINAL - 28226-54380
2 X PACKING (FOR STARTER MAGNET SWITCH) - 90099-14064
1 X GASKET, MAGNET SWITCH COVER - 28175-54380

The brushes' length and armature diameter are well within spec (the starter came from a truck with only 22K miles on it). So I'll plan to just clean, re-lubricate, and reassemble.

Started researching radiators. This one from a local brick and mortar parts house made it 90,000 miles/10 years. What's left of the inlet crumbles in my hand.

Need something similar to the depth of oe so it fits in front of the dual battery box. Maybe metal this time? The truck is a manual trans, no need for an atf cooler. Tacoma version? Koyo? Off to ponder radiators...

It must have heard me inquire about your Champion rad install...
I'd just pulled into the parking lot at work when I lost power steering, a quick investigation- coolant on the belts- explained that. Upper hose was still on-ish, but wiggly. Didn't have time for anything more than that.
After work I learned what I thought was a popped hose was a popped inlet. I dug the pieces out of the hose, stuck it onto what was left of the inlet, used a bit of wire scrap tied between the hose clamp and the bumper hoop to help hold it onto the radiator, added a pint or so of water, drove home easy.

Valve cover gaskets replaced for the 2nd time in its 280k life. The first time was by the original owner around 100k. Glad to have [MENTION=120071]mtbtim[/MENTION] & [MENTION=102606]infamousRNR[/MENTION] video to reference which makes jobs like this significantly easier.

No major issues other than a few broken plastic tabs on the fuel injector connectors which I'll be replacing at some point & the plastic housing on the wiring harness crumbling apart. I removed what was left of the wiring harness plastic & covered it with 1/2" wiring loom on the passenger side & 3/4" on the driver side & wrapped it with a felt/cloth type wire harness tape (forgot to take a pic of part).

yep those factory plastic harness covers dont last long i guess. when i had to pull my first rig apart for knock sensors those wire covers for injectors etc just crumbled in my hands. I used fusion tape ( think thats correct) to insulate wires. lasted about 30k...till i totaled it on a ice covered road. I would trust the tape over those plastic loom covers...at least in my environment. but in yours they will prob do fine
