Moister Farming GX-8 Water Vaporator, commonly found on Tatooine
I think my Uncle Owen, Aunt Beru had one like that many years ago.
Only kidding....
(sorry had to do it)78% sure its an old methane gas well. It is old though, the pipes are all rusted. The long skinny tank coming from the ground catches the gas vapor (non-liquid) and then the gas vapor is pulled down the smaller pipe into the other measuring chambers and pipes and eventually gets burned off.
Any land fills near by? Either way i would probably stay away from it.

I went on a road trip from Seattle to Missoula Montana this past weekend to visit my step brother. Nothing crazy, mostly just highway miles with my dog through beautiful country. For those not familiar you go up through the lush and rocky cascade mountains, down through scrubby desert crossing the Columbia River to Spokane. Then you get back to green mountains with winding rivers as you get into Idaho and Montana. It's a nice 7-8 hour drive (much scenic diversity). Not sure it's something I want to do on a monthly basis but I enjoy driving and it's much better than the hundreds of times I've driven past Gary Indiana for the last decade.
So I was cleaning my 4runner today at a neighborhood car wash and a 5th gen (same color as mine) pulls up next to me with roof top tent, duratracs and a lift. We start chatting and realize we are practically neighbors and both into overlanding. He pulls out a map of his last trip, shows me what he's done to his vehicle, I inform him of this forum, and discussed expedition Overland. It was a pretty slick ride and made me realize exactly how much bigger the 5th gen is, it looks nice but it's huge and I prefer the 4th.
He had his first good collection of trail pinstripes and seemed a bit worried. I showed him mine, told him how to buff them out and we exchanged contact info assuming we'll bring the wives and get beers somewhere in the hood.
Making adult friends is weird but it's funny how I've noticed his vehicle on my street for the last few months and finally met the guy.

Did some mild wheeling in GWNF and scored the primo camp site at the top, Flagpole Knob.

Hey, No not on FB.
I go up there a couple times a year. That top site is kinda open to wind/weather unless you catch it right.
I would like to check out the union springs rd trail but since we were alone, it probably wasn't a good idea. I hear its a bit more challenging than the forest road from Flagpole to 33.

D@mn man your dog looks so serious like its afraid your taking him/her to the vet! I bet that is a beautiful trip.

Yeah, straight up Star Wars geek out on that... Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru were burned by storm troopers, nothing left but their burnt skeletons. LOL.

Painted my new calipers.
One is a NAPA Eclipse. Other is from Rock Auto, a Centric.
Could only get the passenger with warranty from NAPA, but had to get Eclipse, and they added a $20 freight charge.
Rock Auto only had 2 drivers side 5th gen calipers in stock, and I got one of them.
Autozone, Oreiley, and Advance couldn't even order me a 5th gen caliper, left or right!!
Looks like a lot of folks are doing this 5th gen brake upgrade!!
BTW, the drivers side lower inner piston is stuck in my old 4th gen calipers. Why is it almost always the drivers side and is always the inner lower caliper that goes first???

Just wanted to be honest with you guys. But this past weekend I cheated on all of you and rented a 5th gen for our vacation.
It was absolutely great to drive and a cool changeup from the usual. It was tough returning it going to be honest.

Ha it was actually just dumb luck. I was just happy to get it. They are kind of hard to come by for rentals, but they cost as much as a Hyundai Santa Fe. . . .but this was more fun on the back roads.
But when are you coming up this way so I can give you some beer?

Not HORRIBLE. . . I mean I have less than a year on payments, but you can get a used 5th gen for $25k-30k. And while it does seem convincing, it just doesn't make sense for me to swap out my reliable truck. . the old saying if it ain't broke don't fix it comes to mind.
It was just nice to have a little more room in the drivers area and better mileage.

With the clock ticking down on my big summer trip and my supposedly capable seamstress MIA I decided to take matters into my own hands. I swallowed my pride, turned in my man card, went to Walmart and bought the cheapest sewing machine they had. A few hours later, I became an enthusiastic modiste, cutting and pinning and stitching along. A few more hours later, I have a very private and very dark camping curtain setup completed! With the sleeping platform installed they will tuck against the walls tighter at the bottoms but here they are in all their amatuer and crooked glory. Overall investment including the equipment was around $150 (also including culinary bribes to the first failed attempt by unnamed sewer). Easy but time consuming. Hopefully they are worth it.
And now out to the shop to do man things...
