What did you do with your 4runner today?

(Stupid Question) Can I hook it up to something? Any idea on the bigger one?

Checking the wiring diagram, I believe it is "Cigarette Lighter" and "Ashtray Illumination" for use if you install the optional smoker's kit.

I was told by Toyota that you can't add the 115a outlet to the truck, but I have a feeling it's just BS. Only issue is finding a way to turn power on to that plug. I THINK there is a spare connector behind the dash where we have the 4 switch blanks (where the diff lock is) that MIGHT go to the 115a outlet. But I don't want to buy a switch to find out if my idea is correct or not.

You have OW rear coils? I could be potentially interested in those if you aren't going to use them.

What's your setup now?

OW2.0 front and 2.0 rear shocks. Fj rear coils. Ow coils in shed

Took it out to play. In the pic there's only about 2-3 inches, it's still falling right now with about 7 inches accumulated.

Quality of Desert Products is excellent. I looked at TC also, after talking to several vendors and a few others, I was sold on a Desert Products. The UCA is super stiff and beefy. They use the best bearing readily available. Easy to access grease zirks. My alignment is spot on now.

I am running extended travel now and the a Desert Products UCA are fine to use with LT or a extended Travel setup. DownSouth Motorsports was the source of the parts.

With a few inches of snow on the ground today, I exercised the 4lo mechanisms. Last time I did it was in the spring. Worked like a charm and engaged instantly. Disengaged instantly.



Makes a whining sound when you drive with it on as I assume this is gears meshing. This is normal, right?

Yes, in low range you will hear the TCase. Shouldn't be too loud though...

As for long travel, I haven't decided on a decent mid travel setup (extended travel C/O's and uniball upper arm) for full 3.5'' over long travel. Long travel seems so fun, but mid travel is so much cheaper. Decisions, Decisions...

Id pro/con the amount of times you'd need LT over MT set up. With the large price increase of LT over MT it would take awhile to recover that cost. It all really depends on what you do and how often.

Thats true. It seems the idea of being able to bomb around rough back country trails and desert trails makes it seem worth it to me, but I also havent ever really been too limited by my current setup while bombing around so far. Ive been considering building my own long travel as a winter break project, since Ill have access to a full machine shop at school. makes it seem possible, Im just not quite sure how I want the geometry. I know something like some negative camber at full droop and ride height, with more aggressive camber change at compression, around +5 degrees of caster but as how to get that, Im still trying to figure out. Who knows, maybe Ill win the Mega Millions lottery and be able do whatever I want, haha

I hear ya, i'd love to get LT but the big nut of paying for it made me sick haha. I just have coilovers and LR UCAs and it handles washboard backroads and stuff great. Still would love LT but i cant justify it. Even with going to Pismo a few times a year.

Yeah Im having a hard time justifying it too, but I partially just think itd be a fun project to build my own. At the same time, mid travel could do most of what I want too, even without going to Pismo often. Maybe Ill just buy a cheap old five lug 2wd tacoma and mess with that. Who knows, Im pretty broke right now anyway...

didnt know these kits were so expensive. Also didnt know thats where people were putting their second battery. In my truck that area holds AIR, Air tank LoL

They are MB Motoring 352, which is Discount Tires house brand like Level 8. 19x9 offset -13. Picked up the Nitto Terra Grappler 285-70-17.

back on topic. Finished my rear heated seat MOD friday. took my kids out on saturday and immediatly they noticed a new switch near their 12v outlet in the door panel


they tried it and LOVED it! My younger son fell asleep with it on, on a short ride home after dinner.

They are only expensive since it is a small market. The price for the battery tray is crazy (but I bought it out if convience). But I did swap out the selenoid provided for a BlueSea duel battery system like I run on my boat. I just trust the BlueSea stuff a little more.

if i wanted to do a dual battery setup. i can probably get it done for around under $100. battery i would use would have its own tray/box so no need for tie down. But, no desire to do a dual battery YET

btw did you see my switch picture up a few posts. on the colors to use to make the otrattw switches light up?

Drove up from Baltimore to Boston through the blizzard. Very impressed with the truck through the snow, even with the crappy tires it has on. Not a single slip or slide.

I will say that I was VERY happy to get out of the car in Boston. Long day behind the wheel!
