What did you do with your 4runner today?

What did you do with the bolts you drilled out? Tap new threads? A few of mine were busted so I took an air hammer to the weld nut in the frame and just stuck a thru bolt/nut with some big fender washers. Worked great to date.

I tapped three of them. One I didn't catch until I was ready to reattach the skid plates. I thought it was must missing a bolt. When I went to reattach the hole I thought was for it didn't line up then I noticed the leftovers stuck in the actual hole. Drilled that out but the nut inside the frame was shot. It holds the bolt but I will need a better long term fix for that one. New to all this, googled weld nut. I was wondering how to fix that hole down the road when I get a more substantial set of skid plates.
Could you explain your fix? Is the top of the frame open and you dropped a bolt down through with a nut underneath? I would like the option of a non-welding fix I could do ASAP.

Getting close to the end of the season for high altitude trails Got turned back by snow and ice on a couple trails but was able to get some good wheeling for the day

Slow build.............

So I was able to set aside a few hours today to try and finish installing my LED turnsignal/puddlelight mirror covers.

When swapping over the innards to the new covers, I had to cut wires (heat/electric). I also introduced 4 new wires into the wire loom (from the mirror to the door) and doing so somehow "shortened" the mirror wires in the process. Oh well. Attaching 2" additional wire was a little time consuming (my wire splicer was a POS). So I reattached them and now I've retained my power mirrors and heated mirror. Cool.

Puddle light: got it wired. The way I wired them is that they turn on when the door is open. For me, it doesn't make sense otherwise. Also, this way was the easiest way to wire up. Tapped into the door courtesy light. Easy. However, I didn't have the time to feed the wires for the turn signal (from inside the door through the rubber wire boot to under the driver's side dash to splice into it's respective wire).

Driver's side puddle light on. Truth be told: Puddle lights really don't illuminate, but sure look cool.

Today: I've also thought of a few other "mods" I'd like to do. Thinking of making a "build thread".......(it will be boring for most of you but a cool reference to all the crap I've done so far.........)

Finished up washing her. Put on a fresh coat of wax and shined the tires.

Also ordered a Pioneer AVH-4600BT screen.

When you get this installed, post up some pictures and how the installation went. I was on Cruthfield's website tonight and seen that model and the 5600 ones also on sale.

The only real difference between this and the 5600 is thay the 5600 has HD radio and is satelite ready. Neither of which are things I need. I ordered through sonicelectronix.com. It was only $288 shipped and comes with all the same install gear as crutchfield.

Yup that's exactly what I did. I was going to try and tap it but I was wasn't sure the nut would be in good enough shape to hold the threading so I just said screw it, punched it out and added the bolt and nut with big washers on either side. This works great on the front two, don't think you can access the top of the rear ones though. It's also not the prettiest but it's covered.

Installed a 1/2" Body Lift I purchased from member shootmymime because I still had a little tire rub after trimming all I could. Mission accomplished. No more rub and it sits just a tad higher. Install was easy. The hardest part is getting the windshield washer fluid reservoir out to access the body mount bolt underneath it.

was having problems getting my rear window to go down more than half way. Pulled the panel off and got in behind the poly and saw a bunch of rusted out parts. Literally pulled rusted corrosion off the mechanical parts and lubed what I could from the horrible angle I was working with. Greased the rails and she now works again. Easier fix then I was expecting but now a little worried at how long those said rusted parts will hold up. :shrug:

Went on a camping/bird hunting trip to the upper peninsula of Michigan near Watton/Covington this past weekend. We saw more wolf tracks than we did birds but fortunately I got to do a little off roading with the truck. I'm regretting that I didn't take any more photos /video or bring my nicer camera.

In this photo you can see one of the wolf prints next to my hand print on the left. The base of my hand is probably 5" wide and about 6" long. That was a massive print.

There were a few hairy moments of deep water and boggy terrain that I was nervous about but once I put the truck in 4wd it walked right through it like it wasn't even a thing. Even managed a short but fairly steep (for me) incline on soft sand which I was positive I wouldn't be able to get up.

I definitely want to go ahead and get a suspension/spring lift on this. Maybe take the rear up slightly and level out the front end to that. I don't get near trails enough to warrant 285s, a 3" lift, or an ORV bumper but for me having a little more clearance without sacrificing a ton of mpg's would be ideal.

You'd be amazed what a stock 4Runner can do!

Yep but they are rare. Another option is paying attention to fleabay. I thought I saw one on ebay a while back but didn't think much of it. I have to return to Toyota tomorrow (my brother's RAV4) and will ask the parts guy about the "N/A". According to his computer, they are available but probably not in stock. Reminds me of when Toyota had some wire harnesses to do an OEM NAV swap, but those parts are no longer made. I'll report back if I find anything.

Seeing your thread, I head to fleabay and saw someone offer $43.94 or best offer. I offered $35 and he took it. Should of offered $30, uurghhh

Anyway, coming in next week. Not a smoker, but having extra outlets is always nice.

I jumped in on this too! Offered the same guy $35 and he didn't accept the offer. Then I look and another brand new one was up for $30 so I jumped on it! I remember wanting to do this a couple of years ago but couldn't find them for less than ~$75
