Took her to the dealership for a transmission flush and when I was getting ready to pay the tech says, oh we flashed the ECU for you…I assume he was expecting me to thank him but instead I reacted like I've never reacted before. He just stood there in shock, so after talking to his manager, the flush was free and the driveshaft is fixed.
How much was that going to set you back, as I am needing to do that soon.
And I guess what does the ECU reset do?

would guess they loaded new software on for the stop/start. As its a Campaign so they get hours for it.

The transmission flush? It would have been $225, which I would have gladly paid had none of this happened.
Hell if I would have know what was going to happen I would have had tons of work done since it would have been on their dime.
It effects you more under wheeling circumstances. Here's a good explanation….
"Just a PSA: if you ever use the brake and gas while off road to prevent wheel slippage (sorta like atrac), DO NOT get Toyota's "smart stop technology" recall done!!!!
ANY input on the brake pedal simultaneously with the gas pedal will cancel out the gas input, rendering your truck stuck as hell with a one-tire fire.
Just say no to "smart stop"
The girl at Toyota was saying "well these safety recalls are put out for a reason... But if you don't want it..." to which I countered "I have rubber floor mats, they aren't covering my gas pedal. I messed around with the pedals and pressing the brake while going 30 mph slowed me down but it didn't rev the engine or do anything out of the ordinary. While stopped and pressing both pedals, I pressed the gas as if to peel out and it did what it would normally do.

It's not that bad. As far as I know, it's not active under 10mph. There is some delay before it kicks in, and if you press the gas more, the engine seems to go back on. There is a bit of a delay after you release the brake before the engine throttles up again, but it seems to just be so it smoothly ramps up rather than go on suddenly.
It doesn't seem like it would get in the way in many real-world situations. You can still use both pedals at low speeds (like getting unstuck). I don't see a need to use both at higher speeds since Trac should do the trick for that, though I haven't done a lot of wheeling so I could be wrong.
Smart stop is definitely not necessary or useful, though.
I just got another notice for my floor mat recall. If they cut my accelerator pedal, I'll cut them.

Sprayed 4 coats of gloss black on the hitch. I'll let it cure a couple days before I bolt it back on. I need to clean, prime, and paint the section of the frame where the hitch bolts on. I pulled the hardware out of the evaporust soak and it looks pretty good. Just a few small spots of rust left. All the light surface rust is gone. I threw them back in and let them soak longer til I bolt it back on.

A little follow up, last night I looked at my dash cam footage and after my "freak out" you could call it, when they took it back, you can hear two different guys say to each other how she's insane & crazy.

Do it, if nothing else it'll show them to keep their traps shut and be respectful to customers. It reminds me of Belle tire telling me there was no way I could fit 32" tires on my truck...I have had thoughts of driving in there with my 35's and asking him what he thinks now! lol

I bought the 100$ spyder brand ones. Fitment wise they are great, the hard part was getting to one of the screws that held the OE headlights in place. Otherwise, fit like the factory, but look a whole lot better. I didn't see the need to get the OE headlights, since I'm going to get HIDs and wanted to go with the whole black on silver theme. Beam pattern is the same when they are leveled, mine where pretty off from level when I installed them. If you have any more questions PM me.

Today I picked up my full steel skid plate set from Josh at RCI. They are awesome, can't wait to paint them and install them.
Yesterday I drove from Austin to Denver with everything I own packed in my 4Runner. Probably maxing the payload between filling up the cabin, Yakima 18 cu ft cargo box, and two bikes on the hitch rack.
I did some experimenting. One of the fill ups I was running 37psi, averaging between 60-70mph and it calculated with all corrections at 14.8mpg.
The next fill up I set the tire pressure to 42psi, averaged between 65-75mph and I got 16.69mpg.
Even without the skybox and heavy load I'm usually at 17mpg, 18 max on the highway. It's fun playing with tire pressure.

Nearly got stuck in the middle of nowhere (Hot Springs, NC) with no cell service and nobody in sight. We parked off the side of a gravel road for a short hike up to a backwoods waterfall near Max Patch that I heard about. I didn't realize at the time, but I was parking in a leaf-covered mud hole. After about 5 minutes of full throttle wheel spinning, we finally got out. The wife drove while I guided and shoved rocks under the tires. It made for a fun trip!
