Broke the 83,000 mile mark yesterday on a 2003. Tomorrow i'm getting it washed and detailed, then letting my wife drive the 4Runner during the summer. She's a teacher so she'll put fewer mile on it. I drive 50+, sometimes 100 miles a day for work, so i'll drive her 2010 Subaru Forester with 48,000 miles. By doing this, i can hold off on the timing belt and water pump replacement on the 4Runner until the end of the year and not in two months. :snacker:

no lower retaining washer between the shaft and lower rubber? looks like the top washer is installed the wrong way as well.
It's not installed wrong, it's bent now...
I purchased my 4R with minimal/no service records. I knew what I was getting myself into. I've put about 8k miles on it since I purchased it a year ago and am having the 60k mile service done now. The service adviser just told me my front and rear diff oil were both extremely dark (completely clear when new)... I'm a little nervous. Just hoping they don't tell me my diffs are shattered or something extreme like that when I pick it up haha.

My daughter is 3 and a half so time for a new bed. Turns out the box spring it came with is too tall so we won't use it for a few years until she gets bigger. Took her crib to my parents place for storage (isn't that what parents are for? LOL). Have no room for it in my place. Even her old crib mattress fit! Love my truck

how does a washer that has a rubber bushing between it and the lower mounting plate bend?
top washer should be installed concave down. the picture appears it is installed concave up.
post up pics when you get it apart so we all can learn. im banking on no metal washer between the shaft and lower rubber bushing.

Ya I've never seen one do that before either. The lower washer and rubber are gone, done know how. Trying to find a replacement now.
I did it myself, everything was put together right, even took it apart once cause the snap ring moved down a notch when I installed and I didn't notice. Had been fine for over a year. $25 for the upper strut mount in rock auto, going to order one tonight and fix this weekend. Going to check the rest of the bushings while I'm down there, also going to replace other side just to be safe.
Just FYI the timing belt swap has a time limit as well as a Mileage limit. I believe its 9 years. So if it hasnt been done it is past its time.

the lifespan is 7 years or 90k miles recommended by the factory. 100k is just fine..
12 years...!?!? little iffy. I've seen these belts pass 200k though. It's environment conditional

Cool, thanks for the correction. I thought I read somewhere that the newer belts can go longer but I wouldn't be able to tell you where I read that.

Had a local shop fab up some cross bars for my WM roof rack for my tent that I should be putting on this weekend. Also since my 4runner didn't fit in the garage at our house, we bought a new one...that was the cheapest route haha. Used the truck and trailer to move everything and it did great. So now she actually can sit inside all winter and remain clean for more than one day in the summer/spring! The weekend plans are changing oil/diff fluids and possibly a test run camping adventure. pics to follow
