What did you do with your 4runner today?

It's crazy that some Toyota dealers have this canned response "It's not recommmended to do a full flush on the 'lifetime' WS fluid" with a sealed transmission.

BS, do the full flush or as some do in increments with a drain and fill. The trans is about 19 qts total.

A few days ago I polled five local dealer service advisors. Three of them had that canned response, one said they don't have the machine to do a flush via the trans oil cooler, and one that did the full flush on my '05 Tundra 4.7 with 118k miles on it.

I towed with that Tundra some hard miles onroad and offroad after the flush, so I'll be going to the Toyota shop that did the flush on the '05 Tundra.

4runner isn't my daily anymore so I'm not in a big hurry to flush it all out. I'll do 4 quarts every 100-300 miles and in a few weeks I'll have nothing but mostly clean fluid. Just those 4 made a huge difference. Otherwise? Yeah, Toyota can piss off on that WS fluid. I'll be doing my Tacoma pretty soon now too because of this.

I wish I would have done a write up but I did not think it would turn out good. It was my first fiberglass project. I did a lot of sanding.

I thought about putting mine there too.. But decide to try my hand at fiberglass work. That was my second option if the overhead did not turn out well.

Just re-aimed headlights down after installing OME lift kit...yikes, I could tell they were higher while driving through my neighborhood but didn't realize how bad.

I bought the front 885/nitro coils and shocks pre-assembled WITH the "top plate" spacer from Toytec and it's a bit front happy... Some might thing it looks derby but I have about the same clearance between tire and fender in front & back, windows are level so meh. Just pointed the lights down for now, see if the V8 will settle it down a bit, if not might go with a small spacer in back.

If you want to keep a little front rake and are going OME coils and shocks, I wouldn't do front spacer, at least not the one offered by Toltec it's a bit much.

The adjustment was easy though thanks to this forum, just turning a bolt, will fine tune it later but for now i'm not blinding people anymore.

Nice weather today so I figured it's a good time to clean the engine bay, it hadn't been cleaned in a few years.

Sprayed it completely with water on a low pressure setting using the garden hose.
Used natural all purpose cleaner and spray it all over. Gave it few minutes to soak.
Sprayed with water again.
Dried off all the plastic/rubber parts and lubricated hood latch.

Final step is to apply AeroSpace 303 with a clean cloth to all plastic and rubber parts. I like to spray it onto the cloth and then wipe, instead of spraying directly on the parts. I avoid using tire shine and interior shine products because they tend to eat rubber.

LED tail light swap and various minor electrical mods

Got seven things done today...whew...

• Confirmed (yet again) that the left and right ride heights are now the same after installing the OME trim spacer (150PR10) a few weeks ago.
• Removed gunk from windshield left by last year's city sticker.
• Installed LED vanity lights (29mm 3-SMD 6641 Fuse Bulb); the two were still stuck together, so I had to separate them with two pairs of pliers
• Installed glove box light (T5 3-SMD Wedge Bulb); couldn't get the housing to unlatch, so I pulled out the old bulb using needle-nose pliers and inserted the new one in the same way.
• Tried to replace the parking lights with a T10 5-SMD 5050 amber LED bulb but didn't find them bright enough, so I kept the original 168A incandescent ones.
• Performed part 1 of the JA's fog light mod; I had performed part 2 a few weeks ago and just yesterday thought of a couple of use cases for part 1.
• Finally and most importantly, performed the LED tail light swap with used OEM parts from eBay ($150 shipped for both sides from a 2007). A very gratifying mod! Giving away the old ones (pick up in Chicago or pay for shipping).

You can. I have them just haven't swapped them out.

I used a biodegradable cleaner called Fantabulous.
Any cleaner labeled natural or bio should work well , they don't have any of harsh chemicals that can damage rubber or electronics. Simple Green is another brand I've used before.

Simple Green definitely stronger at cutting away grime. I have lots of Fantabulous here I got on sale so I'm just trying to use it up before i hoard more LOL

What did you use? Did you prep it at all or use any rust converter?

I was looking at my rusty tailpipe today daydreaming of making it look better. I had no idea you could paint it like that.
