What did you do with your 4runner today?

After seeing one Wet Okole seat covers on here I decided to stop by their Costa Mesa office and order some for my front seats. Went with black with full charcoal piping and a TOYOTA logo without the emblem. 10-12 days waiting period.

May I ask how much those covers ran you? Honestly don't like my leather seats and I'd love to buy some Okoles...

What amp are you using? I'd like to find something that fits within the stock amp/sub location.

Kenwood XR 900-5 amp.

Fits nicely under the seat. I only put it there so it could breathe. Pushes 4 speakers and a sub to very loud levels no problem! And it is crystal clear.

There have to be tons of amp threads here. I doubt this amp would fit back by the sub, but you never know.

Off topic for your comment, but could you tell me more/show what your sub/amp/headunit/speaker setup is like? I think you have the sub I was looking at

Replaced a wheel stud that discount tire snapped on my wheel spacers. I even told them not the use a impact and torque stick and they what do they do, cross thread the lug nut then run it in with the impact and snapped the stud. thankfully I had 12 brand new studs to chose from a wrong parts order. bout to just start taking the tires off and take them to them so I'm not left fig other people screw ups.

Wifey got into a fender bender about a month ago. Did this to the bumper.

My vLed Triton switchback LED is starting to take a crap on me, so I went in to diagnosis if the LED or control box was bad. Turns out the LED is failing. What's great about Vleds is they have a lifetime guarantee. Worth the price of admission.

What's amazing is (see the picture) clean the space behind the foglight/DRL/TurnSignal is. Not a spec. I installed the Tritons about 3 years ago and still look new. I expected them to be dirty and whatnot.

Finally found the time, and a long enough stretch of good weather to do the Timing belt project on my '03 Limited. I knew going in, it was going to be a bit of a PITA because of the age and miles on the beast. Probably why I kept putting if off. It has 284,000k on her, and because I am the 2nd owner, the actually time/miles it was last done is somewhat vague. The PO didn't keep accurate records, and not all work was done at a dealership. So, I was pretty sure it was LONG overdue. But, since I have to do the work outside, I had to wait for the right opportunity. I had ordered a timing belt kit from an ebay seller, over a year ago, so it had been a while waiting on the ideal time.

I won't bore anyone with all the gory details, but to say it took me over a three day period to finish the job. Because of other problems to deal with, I was only able to work 5-6 hours a day on the job. That, and problems with rusty bolts/nuts, and other problems that cropped up, it took a lot longer than I originally thought it should have. I don't remember who originally posted the suggestion, but I found that using an old serpentine belt to 'lock' the crank pulley in place while loosening and then tightening the crank pulley and cam pulley bolts worked amazingly well, and made that part of the job a lot easier than I expected.

The biggest unexpected problem was the alternator. When I unbolted it to gain access to the water pump and belt tensioner assy., I left the wiring attached, and just moved it to the side, out of the way. When it came time to re-attach it, if found that the ground cable connector had corroded through and broken loose. The stud on the alternator was so badly corroded, I couldn't re-attach a terminal to it. So, thanks to NAPA, I now have a 'new' remanufactured alternator. In a way, it was a good thing it broke when it did. If that cable had come loose on the road, I would probably have been stuck in a bad way.

So, after many issues to fix/solve, I finally got it all together, and it started right up. The old timing belt was still working, but it had many small cracks on the back side surface, so it was definitely over due to be changed.

I'm not as young as I once was, and my back is not happy with what I put it through the last three days, but now I get to relax it for a while.

PS: Yesterday, while driving home from work, the 4Runner started to stumble and lose power. At first I thought I might be having a fuel problem. Tank was just below 1/4, and I have never had an issue with tank this low before, but didn't know, at that time, what else could be the problem. I managed to limp to a nearby gas station, and after adding fuel, the problem still persisted, but at that time there was no CEL warning. It would run ok for a bit, then start stumbling and quit.. Even when it seemed to run, it would lack throttle response. While waiting for wife to meet me, I took a quick look under the hood. By chance I looked at the harness connector to air flow sensor just after air box, and it looked like it wasn't plugged all the way in socket. I touched it, and it fell out of socket, and engine stalled immediately. I re-connected plug and made sure it was locked in place. Engine started right away, and after two seconds, idle flattened out and all seemed normal. At this time I noted there was now a CEL indicator on dash. Wife showed up, and followed me home with out any further incident. I checked CEL with my scanner, and found P0101, 0102, and 0113 faults, all which indicated problem with MAF. I cleared all codes, and so far, all is back to normal.

I suspect that when I moved air box out of way while doing timing belt, I dislodged the connector, and didn't see it when I put air box back in place. So, it was barely making connection, and finally vibrated loose enough to start causing the problem. It had me worried for a bit, but fortunately, it turned out to be a simple fix, this time. :whoo:

Had something like this happen with my 3000GT. Replaced the engine mount and forgot to reconnect the MAF. The car ran like crap and was backfiring like crazy for miles. Opened it up, checked the MAF, plugged it in and everything was fixed! Now it's one of the first things I check if something's not running right.

Bunch of maintenance/preventative maintenance: full transmission fluid flush, coolant flush, front/rear diff and transfer case fluid (amsoil 75-90), new serpentine belt, oil change, cleaned throttle body/maf, new plugs (NGK), PCV valve.

Also ordered new HID kit with philips bulbs from Xenon Depot (4300k)

Planning on breaking out my porter cable buffer to FINALLY bring a shine to my paint, decided to do a "mild detail" to my rig today so I don't take as long on Sunday.

If that is Natural White it looks pretty good already. Looks like the Blizzard Pearl on the '08-'09's. From what I've read you may have a hard time shining up Natural White anymore than that. If you put the DA polisher onto it you might be just removing some paint and won't get any more shine.

Out with the denso, in with the NGK. No clue when the previous owner did them last. I was pleasantly surprised with how easy the job was.

Really? I heard the opposite. Regardless, it hasn't been wax/polished since I have it. Would be nice to protect whatever "is left of the finish ", LOL.

I'll report back.

I'm looking to buy my Dad's 4gen 4runner. It is a '03 V8 Sport w/ 115k. He is the first owner. Trying to figure out what to be prepared for from a maintenance point of view because I've not had the best of luck in the past buying used vehicles.

Trying to create a thread about it however the site won't let me yet.

Hopefully you have the benefit of having service records from your Dad but timing belt, spark plugs, fluids (brake, trans, coolant, PS) would be first on my list if they have not been done. Suspension components may need to be replaced but just have to inspect to see.
