What did you do with your 4runner today?

Today I replaced the water pump and timing belt with tensioner, roller bearings. My 2004 V8 has 239,000 miles on it. The manifold is beginning to make some noise again. The muffler shop said it looks like driver side manifold is leaking at the gasket. Well , at least it's not a crack in the manifold itself. Anyway, I got the truck put back together except for filling it with LLC. I will finish it tomorrow. It's amazing how much power the V8 still has. I hope to go at least another 100K miles.

Finally got my suspension sorted out. New tires and wheels coming soon...

What lift combo did you use? I need to replace my tired Xreas and want a little lift but not a ton since I don't plan on upgrading tires at all.

I went with the Rancho Quick Lift Complete Strut on the fronts and on the back I went with the Rancho Monotube 7000 series in the back with a Daystar leveling kit. Everything is bumped up about 2 inches. It rides great for having 175K miles on it now, the old stuff was worn out big time.

Picked up these 5th Gen wheels, had them media blasted and now they are getting powder coated Anthracite Metallic. I will add the tires I took off my new TRD ORP and this will be my daily driver for the most part.

I was filling up today and did a walk-around as I usually do. I immediately noticed oil in the passenger side wheel well, looked closer and found that my nearly new Bilstein 6112 has blown. I'm really disappointed because I've barely even used them off road, almost entirely on-road. Well, we'll see what Bilstein says on Monday . . .

New gas cap.

“Christmas Tree” came on again and I knew the gas cap was tight this time. (This has happened before).

New cap from Toyota and disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and I’m all clear again. Fingers crossed.

Nice! I did the same about a month ago. Replaced with oem cap, cleared the code with the computer and the christmas tree has not come back. I knew my gas cap was shot when it would no longer tighten.

Bilstein was great. First, they said they have not seen a failure in a 6112. Second, I'm lucky because I live and work about 15 minutes from their US headquarters. So, I went a picked up a new shock on Thursday and had it installed yesterday. I'll be taking the broken one back to them on Tuesday (out of town for work Monday). I did have to pay a sort of core deposit, but that will be refunded to me when I bring the broken one back.

We figured out where the leak is coming from, but I'm going to wait until I hear back from Bilstein before I say more because I want to know what they think caused it. I will say my mechanic friend was surprised.

Replaced rear door jamb switches

Both rear door jamb switches on my '08 did not work when I bought it so I swapped them out today! Now my kids will quite flipping the dome light on and leaving it on. Heading out in a few to changes the bulbs in my climate control panel.

Ditched my OME struts in favor of some shiny blue stuff. Rears go in next week, need to weld in new lower shock brackets since I opted to go with the universal rears rather than application specific set.

Installed a 1A auto lower control arm with SPC hardware. Getting aligned tomorrow. Install went super smooth!

Trans cooler, new Denso radiator, Aisin water pump, all new idlers, all coolant hoses, serpentine belt, coolant, drilled rotors, ceramic pads, power steering system flush, brake fluid flush an some other small stuff done this weekend.

Fun project, about out of things I can feasibly replace until something fails now.

So far they ride super smooth overall. Floats over everything. No regrets pulling the front sway either. Brake dive is gone, braking distance is decreased (rear was getting unloaded too easily before)

There is only one speed bump that, for some reason, is more jarring than when I had the OMEs in, not sure why yet. Perhaps the stiffer coils? Maybe its just the rear end, don't have the rear Kings in yet. Need to play with the adjusters and dial it in as well.
