What did you do with your 4runner today?

Definitely had to use the heat gun a couple times on the drain bolt. Not my best purchase decision but I was on a buying spree and thought Amazon had the best prices. Went with Lucas Synthetic 75W90 and overpaid--$115 for two gallons SMH.




Yeah, I'm up for it. My 4R is gonna be down for a couple weekends since I'm getting ready to rebuild the power steering pump and replace the lines, waterpump, and pulleys. Internal snorkel mod looks interesting--I can help or observe while my rig is disassembled haha.

I did my water pump and tensioner pulley a while back but I just bought an alternator today. I'm sure I should do the steering system next so I'd be down to help you with that just to see how it all comes out. You planning on doing your intermediate steering shaft while you're down there? How are your steering rack bushings? Sounds like an old or at least loved rig, I'm looking at lower ball joints soon too. Those things are scary.

Yeah I'm gonna work on the PS tomorrow since it seems the weather's decent. I have not looked into the ISS and steering rack bushings yet--might have to look into those. Has 180K on it--the PO wasn't too meticulous on maintenance, however, it seems like the owners before him were. I sent you a PM.

Both head gaskets got replaced, Welded on a nut to get my front diff drain plug out, changed cv boot, and fixed my body mount paint/rust. While i changed my cv boot I forgot to un bolt the abs and vsc wire clips at first so they stretched and I think I might have messed that up because my abs and vsc lights are on, but thats for another weekend.

Programmed two transponder keys and fobs. If anyone is getting the forever 2 & 3 blink, it's because there are too many keys programmed. Gotta do the erase (except Master) and then you can program your new keys.

Also bought a 18" 3/8" ratchet extension to use as my spare tire lowering tool since the PO lost it.

Took the badges off my driver and passenger door and the runner badge off the tailgate. Left everything toyota. Hair dryer, floss, goo gone, a couple stones, and finished her off with a little turtle wax bug and tar remover. Man does it look good. Funny how these little visual changes make such a difference on our runners. Might get some trd badges to match the center caps on my wheels.

Swapped out the non-DRL flasher relay for the DRL flavor. I'll never know why I love the look of amber DRLs

We did Sandstone Canyon. It wasn’t supposed to be this hot (97*) so I guess we just got lucky! I gotta say, we had fun. It wasn’t anything that I’d want to rush back and do, as far as a technical trail, but it was nice to get out into the desert and it was very pretty out there.

So, the only place on the trail, where you actually need to lock in, is pretty fun. Is a little tougher on the way back. There is a rock there that has to have claimed thousands of door panels. At least one Land Rover that we saw. My girl is a quick study and actually did a kick-ass job of spotting me through.

There’s also a nice spot next to that rock pile to have a snack and a beer. All-in-all, a nice day for sure.

Installed my new grille. I'm not sure yet whether I'm going to leave the surround black or paint it silver to match the hood. I'm also debating getting an olde skool Toyota emblem to replace the chrome, but we'll see. I'm going to rock it as-is for now and see how I feel about it in a month or two.

Replaced my spark plugs today after noticing kind of a rough idle at times. Based on the carfax they plugs have been there for over twice their life cycle.

Threads looked shiny, but I’m guessing that’s from the anti-seize the last mechanic used.

Replaced everything with NGK Iridium tips. LFR6AIX-11 6619. They were 30 shipped from amazon

After turning her on, there is a noticeable difference in the smoothness of the idle.

Are you running a second battery? Where did you mount your second amp (assuming you used the OEM and mount for one)? What kind of beastly alternator powers that setup?

Idler pulley came in on Friday, I can’t wait to get this thing installed this week when the rain stops and to get rid of that squeak that came back after I had the dealership replace my serpentine belt. When I had picked it up, they then told me the pulley was running rough, and was quoted a little over $200 for the replacement. I’ll be doing the work myself this time.

got it painted, clear coat was bad and had lots of really deep scratches. Paid 1500 for 2 coats of paint and clear coat, I happy with it.

Bonus check landed in the bank account on Friday so I drove down to Slee to buy an ARB bumper and a Come Up Seal 9.5rs winch. Thankfully, it all fit in the back of our mountain go cart (Honda Fit).

Installed everything today and I think it looks fantastic. Looking at online pictures I always thought there were better looking and lighter bumpers out there, but I’ve always liked the classic look of an ARB. Plus, I really dig how you can mount the HiLift on the bumper.
