What did you do with your 4runner today?

Here is a flick from last weekend. Finally got my new tires mounted and got the runner offroad for the first time since the suspension and tire upgrade. I cannot begin to describe how awesome the ride is, as well as the articulation i am getting with this Metaltech LT kit. 10/10

5th gen rear retro almost ready. Still waiting for the stoptech ss lines and maybe custom axle lines. These are a tad short for my LT setup. I’d hate to have to do it twice on account of the difficulty I’ve been reading. Calipers came red but I’m debating on redoing in silver or blue.

Tent Cot and Camping

Made some progress on my poor mans RTT, installed a new head unit, and then some river camping. Now back to the desk :frusty:

I installed a K&N cabin air filter. So far I am happy. The fit was great, maybe even better than stock. No noxious smells either.

Fought one frozen piston for 30 mins with a vice grip to get it to go back.

At least she’ll be drivable til stoptech gets me my calipers

I uprooted a tree with my wheel/fender a couple weeks ago and got some gnarly death wobble at about 55mph. So I ordered some new tie rods and they came in yesterday. I had been driving this thing at 80mph before the tree smash with no issues.

I really didn't expect it to be the tie rods, I expected to find some major damage but I got the rods anyway. Upon taking it apart I discovered both ends were as loose as a $3 whore.

I then discovered that I bent my sway bar end link on one side by about 30 degrees.

I'm waiting on some spacers to finish my lift so it's still apart, but I expect there to be no more death wobble.

I don't have the special tool for the dust cover clamps, and needle nose won't cut it. I suppose ill go get some hose clamps and just get it done. Cheaper than a $25 tool I will likely use once. Maybe I can borrow it from Auto zone...

Anybody know of a good end link that isn't OEM? I typically buy OEM for the quality but this doesn't seem like a super important piece, I may just leave it bent.

Since I bought my 2008 on Saturday, I've been slowly fixing a couple small issues:


[*]Front windshield washer wasn't working, but pump was making noise and rears worked. I tracked it down to a cut/repaired hose near the back passenger edge of the hood -- bought some new tubing and couplers and swapped out the faulty portion and it works like a charm

You lucked out. My rear washer wasn't working and I pumped a gallon of water under the passenger carpet before I diagnosed it.

Good excuse to replace the carpet, however.

New carpet? From where do you plan on ordering yours? Toyota wants $1k for a replacement carpet, I said nevermind and never gave it a second thought.

Aftermarket Projector Headlights

Today I installed a set of black projector headlights on my 2005 4Runner that I got off Amazon.

My 3rd gen needs carpet but I’m still debating if I want to replace it or sell it. I might replace my 4th gen carpet with black carpet though. I don’t like the 2 tone much.

Gave the underside a slightly overdue coating of Fluid Film. I am trying to apply a coat every spring and fall. Hope to keep this thing for a while.

Glad to hear that there are no smells. I was just at Napa last week asking about those because they are running a sale on cabin filters and showed K&N as being one of the brands. I never knew they did cabin filters, but my first thought was that I’d hate to have that oil smell in the cabin! I asked the staff but no one there knew anything about them, but after looking them up, I found out that they use a completely different recharge kit than the regular oiled gauze filters for engines. I’m still not sure it’s worth the extra money though, since you have to buy a separate kit to clean and recharge it in addition to the already pretty high cost. I suppose if I lived in the desert, or some highly dusty environment maybe... I don’t know, still considering it before the end of the month when the 20% off sale ends.

Yeah but my replacement calipers are 3-4 weeks out right now so this is just a bandaid fix for now. I have two other cars I can drive in the mean time hehe

I've had mine for just over a year, and I've taken it out and cleaned it maybe 3 or 4 times. I live down a dirt road and I always have leaves getting in there. The filter and refresher kit come to about $50 on amazon, and I haven't even used half of the cleaner and refresher yet. So even if you are only able to get 10 cleanings out of it, the price is still worth it.

Also this isn't from today, I actually found and installed this a year ago, but this a Gum Creek Under steering wheel holster mount that works with any canvas holster with a belt rung. Thing is kick ass for my firearm carrying people (Most states require a CCW Permit to be able to use this so use at your own discretion)
