What did you do with your 4runner today?

The install was easy. I haven't had to use it yet lol, so that'll be the true test of whether I like it or not. Hard to say at this point with me not using it in a recovery situation.

Pretty much all of my lights up front were a bit foggy when I bought the car last week, and one of my fogs was out. So I went to the parts store and picked up some bulbs and a Mother's headlight polishing kit that meant to be used with a drill.
Turns out the foglight wasn't even burned out, it was just dangling from its wire! I took the bulb out, wiped it off, and checked to make sure it still worked. It did!
I moved on to the headlights and man did that kit do a good job on the lights. Perfect? No, but with the lights off in the day they look like they may have come off of a 75k vehicle and not one approaching 200k miles. I said F it, I went ahead and did the fog lenses too as they were pretty murky. They came out great also. The turn signals I think were too far gone so I didn't even try them, but I may just give it a go tomorrow just cuz.
If I can save another thirty-something dollars on new ones, that's a win! Speaking of saving money, the locksmith I spoke to wanted $170 to program one fob and cut/program two keys. I programmed the keys myself tyvm. Going to get the keys cut tomorrow. The fob I think may be faulty though.

I wrapped up my communication stack. My dash is already cracked all over, so putting bolts through it really didn't break my heart lol.
CB: Uniden PRO 505XL (bottom) antenna is Firestik 4' tuneable
UHF/VHF: TALKCOOP KT-8900 25/20W (top) antenna is Bingfu 136-174MHz, 400-475MHz
Below is the UHF/VHF antenna
Below is the UHF/VHF antenna AND the CB antenna (hood mount, right)
I have fumbled through a few different radios and setups, but I love this one the most thus far. (yes I do have a license to operate the UHF)

Lol, well I had to winch myself down the road to spool the synthetic rope. I parked my fiance's 5th gen in the road as an anchor and winched myself to her.
We have the same GGM 4runner! I too, hate my chrome grill and think it looks tacky AF. What color is the grill, it looks different but I like that it doesn't match perfectly.

Thanks, I truly appreciate that. This is Day 38 working at a Specimen Point of Collection and it's starting to feel like the movie Groundhog Day. What's really weird is hearing about how everyone is trying to fill their shelter-in-place time when we're doing 12-hour days. Not complaining at all, it's a privilege to be a part of the response and this is exactly what we plan and train for. It's just odd to be on the other side of the stay-at-home orders.

Oh for sure, I understand that. I'm a grad student studying molecular biology so I've been sent to work from home, yet friends of mine that work in the same building are pulling 12 hr days, every day because they work in testing. So I can only imagine the difference is a bit jarring!

That's kinda odd but this sort of thing has made me make the habit of opening my window some when walking away from a running car. I also had the local hardware store cut a cheap non-chipped key just for unlocking the door, it lives in my house.

I also keep the driver's window open at least 4 inches when I get out now as well ever since the couple of times the wind blew the door closed.
I actually replicated the issue with the lock today when I got home, the vehicle wasn't running but as I was opening the door and getting out the heel of my hand as I mentioned earlier was against the lock toggle as I pulled the lever to open the door, the door started opening and I let go of the lever before it was completely unlatched and pull the lever again to release the door but the door latch didn't release, I looked at the lock toggle and it was halfway between locked and unlocked, toggled it to the unlocked position and pulled the lever and it released, so the friction of the heel of my hand on the toggle sometimes stops it from completely getting in the unlocked position and stopping halfway but close enough to the locked position the it's really locked.
I only have one key, I do have an OEM blank and tried to get the local Toyota dealer to cut it via my VIN number since I want it to be a "new" key and not just cut from the key I have, but the manager said since I didn't buy it from them he couldn't be certain it was truly a Toyota OEM blank and therefore he didn't know what metals it was made from and it's their policy that they only will cut OEM blanks on their key cutting machine because any other blank "might" damage their cutting wheel, I even had them bring out one of their OEM blanks and they nor I could tell the difference in the one I have and their OEM blank..but they still wouldn't cut my blank!!
I need to just get it cut somewhere else so I have 2 keys and then later get one cut VIA the VIN number.

I don’t know if you have an Ace Hardware Store near you. They duplicated my car key for about $70. It took about 15 minutes for the process. You just give them your OEM key and they grab a comparable key from the rack and place them both in some type of machine. All I know is that it works and starts up the car.

Family in Coconut Creek, Miami, Lauderdale, and Margate.
Started fishing in PCB in late 80’s and moved to Destin in mid 90’s. Brand has become major touristy but still love it and every vehicle in the fam gets a tag.
