What difference would a turbo muffler make?

I have a 97 4Runner SR5 V6 and I need a new muffler. I already got a new tailpipe. I want to go with a performance muffler, and I have read different horror stories, ect...

I saw a Magnaflow 13255 XL Stainless Steel 2.25" Oval Muffler as well as a MagnaFlow 13255 Universal Satin Stainless XL Turbo Muffler on Amazon. There is less than a $10 difference. Is there any benefit to a turbo muffler, or is that going to screw up the back pressure and what not? (No, I don't have a turbo).

turbo is just their wording for allowing higher flow capacity...

it will not hurt your back pressure. Its not like you're going for a 3" exhaust which would probably hurt your torque some.

if you have the stock muffler on there, you'll probably notice a nice little difference in power. the super turbo mufflers keep pretty quiet too.

I don't know how it would sound on a 4Runner but I put a set of MagnaFlow XL Turbos on my Mustang (4.6L) and it was horribly loud and raspy. I replaced them (that week) with a set of Dynomax Super Turbos and the sound is much more mellow and I can hear the radio at highway speed (with the windows up anyway). The Dynomax Super Turbos have also shown to flow better than most (including Dronemasters). The MagnaFlows are nicely made (stainless) but the Dynomax are a lot cheaper and have a lifetime guarantee - you can even return them within 90 days if you don't like the sound.

I'm running an 17" turbo muffler on my 3rd gen. It has a nice mellow tone without being loud. It doesn't get loud and annoying even at full throttle climbing the mountain roads. Also I have driven across country and it doesn't drive me out of the rig.

With that said, I may go a little longer on the next one just to quiet it down a little more.

I actually have had people ask me if I'm running a turbocharger.

Magnaflows might have nice stainless, but their welds are crap.

They used to weld the whole muffler together, now it's just ****ty tack welds that break apart.

The horror stories I was reffering to actually was in ref ChildrenOfBodom's post. I looked at the YouTube clips today, and wow, that sucks! I am sure there are horror stories on alot of different mufflers, but man, that's pretty scary!

So the question is do I spend the money on a Borla, or is there a nice Flowmaster that isn't crap, and sounds cool? I am looking for a nice growl, but my 35s are loud enough. I don't need it to sound like a tank going down the street!

check out the cherry bomb vortex. i got one for mine and love it. its mellow but you can still hear it and its got a nice tone, no rice or rasp. same basic high flow design a lot of others use too. good looking muffler when i put it in, solid built.

I put a Flowmaster 40 Series on a couple weeks ago. I personally love it. Most people don't like the drone of it but I am used to it from my other vehicles. The drone isn't that noticeable at 60 MPH and above. 55 MPH and uphill climbs it starts talking. Great sound though. Compliments the ISR and Deckplate Mods very well.

You got me, I can't remember. I know I went with the 2-1/4 size though. I had to add a small bit of pipe when welding it in but no big deal. If I can remember, I'll take a measurement of it tmrw if you like.
