What do you guys think about the GMC Acadia?

Hello,

Yes, I know this is an unusual question, but my parents Ford Expedition was totaled the other day. Everyone is ok, and my Dad wants some help finding a new car (and no they do not want a 4Runner!) :

Anyway, I really like the Acadia b/c it's a crossover with better gas mileage, it has a nice interior, and just seems really well done. I never thought I would be saying that about a GM vehicle!

What do you guys think. I don't know about the reliability or depreciation, but I would guess it's not as good as Toyota.

I have only heard good things about it...i would also look at it's Saturn counterpart, which is apparently more upscale (& better looking). I would also wait for the new Highlander to come out (if possible). If you parents have enough money, then i would take a real good look at the new Acura MDX...from reviews, it looks like a great crossover.

I agree, it looks like a winner. The 3.6L engine has been pulling duty in Cadillacs for a few years, and I have always liked GM auto transmissions. I would look carefully at the AWD system for reliability reasons. The interior dimensions are similar or even roomier than an Expedition, plus the better handling and fuel economy of being a crossover. This is a big vehicle with real 3 row seating, weighing around 5000lbs. C&D tested it and it ran 0-60 in 8.1 seconds, a little tepid by todays standards. However, it has brakes that could stop a tank.

As for features, the Acadia can be a little more optioned up than the Saturn. The Acadia features dual projectors (hid option on low beam) and a power liftgate. Stabilitrack, rollover protection and heads up display (love it or hate it) are all available.

If the Acadia is going to be predominantly a people hauler, I would consider it. If your folks are looking at replacing a TRUCK, they may need to look elsewhere. If I had a couple of F1's I'd consider moving into a larger vehicle, and I would strongly consider an Acadia until Toyota fires another shot accross the bow of the General's fleet. Given todays rising fuel prices a crossover makes good sense. But for now, just me my wife and our dog, its V8 4Runner time!

I really like the exterior and interior. I have not driven one yet.

I personally wouldn't buy a first year run on any vehicle (including Toyota). But I'll bet GM will want to make sure customers of this new vehicle are satisfied.

Depends entirely on what its going to be used for.

I have a supercharged 5.4l V8 in my short bed single cab truck (SVT Lightning). Very not practical. And believe me in light of gas prices in the last 2-3 years, I'm looking for ways to keep this one as a toy and get a more efficient SUV or truck sized daily driver.

At first sight, the side profile resembles a Gen 4.5 4Runner. Get the Saturn Outlook (aka Acadia). Like what Thai said, the Outlook, looks more upscale and better looking than the Acadia.
