Hey everyone Im new to the forums and Im looking at a 2000 4Runner Limited 4WD. I hope you guys can help me out with some of the questions I have. First of all, is it a good deal? I has 58,400 miles (kinda high) but I know these engines last a long time if maintained properly, besides its certified till 100k miles, the asking price is $23,000, Im hoping to bring them down to $21,000. What are the main differences between 2000-2002, I believe there was a few differences in the 4WD system as well as other specs. Thanks in advance.

In today's mail was the annual auto issue of a leading consumer magazine (the one that sues people when you use their name).

They listed the 2000 4Runner as better than average reliability (weakest areas were electrical, brakes, and body hardware, but they were still better than average). It's also listed as one of the reliable used vehicles in the $22K to $26K range.

I own a 2000 4Runner Limited 4wd.

Just as some background info....nothing has gone wrong over the 46k miles ive driven it.
The 4wd system is confusing at first but once you get to know, its THE best out there!

I prefer our 00 system over the 01 and 02's. Why, because we have the rear locker for offroading sistuations.

Just the leading sport companys "JUST DO IT".

By that 4Runner and you will be pleased.

Just curious...what do you plan to do with?? Street, offroading??

thanks everyone for your help. I did check the kbb and its right at $23000, but Im still going to try to get them down, because I know how much they paid for it roughly (kbb trade-in) so I know how much room they have to negotiate. I plan on using it as a daily driver and to tow my 3500 lb. boat, by the way does anybody know the towing capacity? I noticed it has the Rear Differential Lock like my current 2001 Tacoma DC TRD which I have heard it is a great feature to have. Do you guys think towing will put too much strain on the engine with its current mileage of almost 60k mi? What do you think of the mileage overall, is it too high, not worth buying?

Absolutely try to negotiate them down!! The sites are good to ensure the price is fair, but you never know what the price limits are until you test them. And if they won't budge, you always have the right to walk away....isn't free enterprise great?? ;)

Another thing consider doing -- if you decide to go after this one, ask the seller for a Carfax (or comparable) report on the vehicle. If they refuse, then get the VIN and spend the $20 to make you have all available information before you make an expensive decision.

When I sold a pickup truck recently, I used the report as a marketing tool and I'm convinced it helped sell the truck faster.
 
I agree with the carfax thing but as I was told by the salesman, since the vehicle is a Toyota Certified Used Vehicle it has already been checked for accidents through the carfax database and Toyotas own nationwide VIN based database which also checks service records at all dealerships. According to this guy, for a car to become Toyota certified it must be in excellent condition mechanically as well as wear and tear items like tires and brakes, also it must not be modified in any way, that even includes the sound system (speakers and headunit). So I'm pretty confident I'm buying a quality inspected vehicle with a good powertrain warranty, I just don't know about the mileage and towing...
