What do you think of A/C system?

I love my '03 SR5 but have a few beefs with the climate control, maybe it is just mine.

Are you guys happy with how cold the air is when it is hot outside? My air does not seem that cold when it is above 85 degrees...has been like that since new


Also, the logic works good when it is hot or cold outside, but if the outside temp is close (70-76) to the selected temp it has trouble figuring out whether to throw heat or cold air. I wish it had a heat only or cold only button

Mine too. Its not at all powerful enough. People with GX 470's complain all the time and it was determined that the HVAC system in the 4R/GX is way too small.

My A/C seems about compared to other vehicles Ive owned. It blows cold enough even on the hottest days.

But I prefer to control it manually instead of using the automatic climate controls.

I'm pretty happy with mine - it's a 2007 - it was pretty cool even in the back with the outside temp reading 106 on my way to Cali a few weeks ago.

I'm not sure - simple things would be using the outside air instead of recirculate may cause it to be warmer - or there's something wrong with the A/C...have you had it checked?

Yes while moving but its not noticeable at all. Shut the vents if it bugs you that much.

My AC unit is the same, I have a 06, and Its not powerful at all. I'll tell you now, Nissan's AC units are the coldest I have felt.

My problem is it doesn't blow hot cold enough when its cold. I'm a hot body, and lets say the temp is anywhere below 64 degrees, the ac cooks me unless its on 'lo'. 65 or whatever is the lowest number above 'lo', blows warm air, and it pisses me off. I was noticing that i wish mine could be colder the other day when it was 84, but after a few minutes I do cool off enough.

Agreed though, the AC could be better.

That's the only thing I don't really like on my 2008. First off, it doesn't seem to blow cold enough. Today it was 106 outside and I could have used some colder air.

Also, I think the design of the push button controls kind of suck. It would be so much easier to have a knob or slider for hot/cold temp, but I guess that's not as pretty.

I have the same with my 4Runner I just bought. It is an 05 SR5 and I took it to the dealership to ask what was up with it. Mine would blow cold one minute and the somewhat warm the next. They said the computer that controls the a/c does to protect something from overheating. I can't remember if it was a canister or condenser that he said, but it was something to do with the system and how it was designed. Check your cabin filter as well as that can have an impact on your a/c as well from what I read in the manual.

I have no complaints about the climate control system. I love the set the temp and forget it idea. One thing I have noticed, if the system is off, but it is still blowing warm air and you want cool. You can turn on the ac let it run for a few second then turn it off. This is nice when you have the windows open and dont want warm air blowing on you.

I was having issues with my AC system last year, but then I realized that I should probably check my cabin filter. Low and behold---caked with crap. I made a new one (3M filter mod) and it was as good as new! What a HUGE difference it made.

My '08 V6 A/C is acceptable. I notice it works much better if you do not have any air directed to the floor vents at all. Keep that cabin filter clean! Got to admit that it does not compare to my previous Expedition with optional rear heat and A/C. I could turn that beast into a meat locker in no time at all.

Undercharge/Clogged filter/etc. issues aside, assuming it's working correctly, wether or not people are satisfied by AC generally depends on their age.

If you're old enough to have experience with the older cars that used actual R12 Freon in their A/C systems you're not going to be satisfied with anything made today. A number of years ago, the environmental whiners forced the replacement of R12 with R34 and the new chemical just isn't as effective as the older one was, so a modern AC system will never equal an older one. You can thank the environmental whack jobs for this, just as you will be able to thank them for obscene energy costs in the years to come after they shove cap & tax down our throats.

All of this based upon unprovable theories, of course. But, hey, it allows them to redistribute the wealth, right?

From what I have found with my 98 Nissan Maxima and my 08 Toyota 4Runner. both use R134 and both cool quickly and do a great job. And it get pretty hot and humid here in Oklahoma.
