What do you tow? (pics)

Question for you experienced towing guys: I'm about to move to Chicago, and thinking about towing our 07' Mazda 3 behind the 4runner (05' V8 - oem weight dist hitch). I'm thinking either a dolly or full trailer from uhaul. I believe the Mazda is about 3200 pounds fully loaded. Any suggestions or advice on if I should do this? I have the option to have it shipped via car carrier, but they say it could take two weeks to get their (driver won't go unless his trailer is full). If I do this, will I be stuck at 50mph for 800+ miles? Or can I get up and go at normal speeds of about 70mph?

It'll be fine. I towed my accord on a uhaul trailer 500 miles no problem and it weights 3150 pounds, and it was packed full of stuff. I was able to 70mph no problem, and did 15.5 mpg. You can go online to uhaul.com to get a price estimate on how far you go. Mine cost about $150 with insurance etc. Just make sure you include that you have a class III hitch otherwise the system won't allow you to load up a 3000+ pound car

That is a nice pop up. One thing about the 4th gen. compared to the 3rd. The tow hitch is 2 inches higher. I needed an extension to lower the hitch for my pop up. The 4th gen. towed my pop up slightly better than the 3rd gen.

Here's my matching '96 Coleman Pop-up camper I pulled up and through the Colorado Rockies. It's only (at max) about 2500 lbs plus the equipment I load up in the truck, but that V6 didn't want to go very fast up some of those roads (those unfamiliar with I-70 headed west out of Denver, these roads can be fairly steep). On some hills I was pulling 40mph and staying in 3rd gear (I am thankful I have a 5spd).

And then our camping spot is up off of an off-road of sorts dirt road, so I'm glad this camper we found had a lift already on it! Anyways, enjoy the pics.

Up off of Gore Pass. There's some nice trails and roads back up there to some great campsites! Some of the roads are a lot better taken care of than others, but the one we use to the pictured camping place has quite a few dips and bends to it. I bought my 4runner just so I wasn't scraping the bottom end of my car everytime I drove the trail.

18 foot Apex RIB originally built for the Clearwater Fire Department
Loaded with Optis (kids Boats) gear and fuel it weighs about 3,000 pounds.

15 foor Novurania RIB, the boat I prefer to use, it is easier and more fun to drive, (and it is easier to tow as well) only weighs about 2,000 with gear and fuel, and a lot more aerodynamic.

I have a 12 ft trailer at home, and have been known to pull mini-excavators and my mother-in-law's 20 ft travel trailer across town. But mostly Jeeps, Chevy trucks, Ford Explorers, punk kids stuck in lakes with mom's FWD car, and the occassional 4Runner. LOL!
