What does the CCV hose do?

Getting ready to swap out the PCV valve and grommet on my 2002 SR5, and I think I may have a small crack in what the diagrams say is a CCV hose.

What in the heck is a CCV and why does it have a hose?

The hose is coming from the air box, across the front, just above the spark plug wires and all the way to the other side of the engine bay.

Can I tape it or should I replace it? Other than being long, it looks like it would take < 5 minutes if one had a new hose on hand.

If you look at the op’s attached picture you will see the pcv hose (positive crankcase ventilation hose) is separate from the ccv hose.

I have a 2000 so my engine bay looks a little different. That hose for me goes from the air box to the charcoal canister. Your charcoal canister is located under the vehicle by the fuel tank for you. Does it connect to a pipe attached to the firewall that goes under the vehicle?

It's too dark out now, I can't tell.

I think it went to a "T" and then went under the vehicle.

Based on an earlier reply, I did find a "Toyota 23830-62010, Hose Assy, Fuel Vapor Feed" that per the diagram at TOYOTA 4RUNNERVZN185L-GKPGKA - TOOL-ENGINE-FUEL - VACUUM PIPING | Japan Parts EU seems to be it.

If this is it, how many damn hoses return air to this engine?

PCV, CCV, "Hose #3" and what else?!?!?!

It vents your gas tank fumes back into the engine. The charcoal canister scrubs the fumes when the pressure sensor on the tank deems it necessary to vent it back into the intake. Technically you could vent it to atmosphere with no ill effects other than an engine bay that smells like you just cracked a gas can on a 95* day that's been sitting in the sun for an hour...best just to replace the line...

The 2001 and 2002 have a pile more emissions lines on them. As the charcoal canister is back next to the spare tire. 2 lines come up from that box to the engine bay.

Best to replace it as I hate to see someone having a smoke with your hood open and go up in flames and ruin your rig.

For a couple of dollars a foot at the local parts store, I'll buy hose all day when in doubt. What kills me is taking the darn thing off and walking into the parts story with a dirty old hose like a ding-a-ling.

Is this kind of hose sold/marketed by ID or OD? I put some calipers on the nipple of the air box where it attaches and got just a couple of thou over .400"...so I'm assuming the ID is gonna be a little under that...maybe 3/8"?

Tried to measure OD on the hose and got .530" or so, but I'm not sure I had it squared up perfectly. Plus I just have Kobalt calipers, not Mitutoyo or some high end kind!

All Toyota hoses are in metric. Worst case mostly you can get the hose off of Toyota if need be.

Interesting. I installed the hose a couple of years ago and it is NOT OEM. Suddenly, we've been getting 18mpg I just found our CCV hose cracked at the airbox, cut the end off and stuck the hose back on the airbox for now.
We have a 2000 Limited which spews gas off the left frame rail if we close the filler cap tightly with any fuel in the tank.
We do not close the filler cap tightly, it gets over ~21mpg, no codes (CEL is operational) wtef. :banana::flypig:
