I want to get a exhaust, or dual exhaust, that exits the sides so I don't get the sulfer smell. I also want it to be super loud and help my gas mileage. What should I get?

Id go with Borla, IMHO.

Cut the pipe after the tire and re-route it at an angle out the side.

Why spend $600+ on an exhaust system that is for primarily sound??
Just go to a shop, have them cut out your old muffler and weld in a flowmaster super 44. And then have them chop off the resonator and reroute it to the side. BTW I love mine, but it sounds 10000x better on a v8.

A new kit costs way too much for the actual "increase" in horsepower and "decrease" in MPG's. Just cut the res off and replace the muffler. Good luck! :cheers:

for mileage you're going to have to get rid of some cats. Since it's mainly for sound, I'd go with something like the flowmaster 50 series if you're not looking for too loud as it's only about $150 to have one welded up.

How about Magnaflow? I just bought a 22'' mag and need to get it installed. A part of me thought about getting the 18" but I was too scared it would bee too loud. Opinions?

I have also been thinking of getting an aftmrkt exhaust for my 03 V8. I will be continuing to search but thought I'd take the opportunity to chime in since the topic has been on my mind too.
I've been trying to find out which of the two (Flomaster/Magnaflo), will provide the deeper more throaty sound. I had put one of them on my 96 V6, (can't remember which one), and it was certainly MORE than loud enough...actually it was ridiculous inside the car, and far too tinny on the outside. I know that the fact that it was a V6 was part of that problem...
Im looking for deep rich V8 sound. I don't really believe that either will improve gas miliage though. The last one I had certainly didn't, especially since I didn't ad a URD MAF Sensor Calibrator. I figure that if you change the intake/exhaust config, you need to a calibrator to actually get the true benefit for performance vs just sounding bad assed.
What are your recommendations, model#s etc?

I've had Borla, magnaflow, flowmaster, etc. before and I really like the sound of the flowmaster 50 if you're looking for not TOO much noise, but a nice sound to it.
I have a magnaflow truck muffler on my car and like it as it is a straight-through design, but it tends to be higher-pitched than the flowmaster series.
On my old 944 I had a Borla XR1 and it was LOUD but sounded amazing!

A lower number Flowmaster (40, 50 series) will almost certainly have a deeper sound.
What are the primary differences between the 40 and the 50. 40 louder? Do I want muffler only or Full cat-back?

Exactly. Pretty much just sound. The 40 maybe flow a little better too. As far as I know Flowmaster does not make a cat back system for any 4Runner.
Isn't it true that when you open up anexhaust like this to allow for better 'flow', that you also then lose a little back preasure and thus some of the low RPM torque? That's what happened with my 96 V6. It was terrible on bottom. Is there any way to compensate for that other than to keep the stock pipe diameter to at least limit this effect somewhat?

He suggested that this would make for a fairly quiet low RPM motor for that in traffic civilized sound, but get that throaty, louder and deeper sound as the pedal is pushed. He seems to feel that Magnaflo will be less tinny sounding than the Flomaster. ???

The 50 suv and big block along with the 70 is a "mild-stock" sound.
The 60, 50HD, DBX, HP2, PRO, and 50delta, and 50 4x8 are moderate.
The 40, 80, 10, and 44 are LOUD.
I'd go with the 50 SUV if I were you. I think the 52455 will fit. It should be 2.25 in and out with an offset outlet, but may be 2.5, I forget. (You can find this cheaper with a little google work) Super 50 Series (SUV) 2.25IN(C)/OUT(C) [52455] - $136.31 : Flowmaster Inc. Exhaust Shop, Love That Sound!

I have a 6" round 27" long magnaflow on my 1.6L MR2 and it sounds nice all the way up to 8500RPM. I've just never liked one I heard that was a smaller muffler (4x8). Flowmasters always sound deeper, but at idle will make just a hair more noise. The guy at that shop probably has a better profit margin on magnaflow.
