What Happened to Isuzu?

I think Joe Isuzu is in a tight spot. Last week I checked an Auto Consumer Reports, the big one that comes out in February or so, not the April Auto issue. I first checked the 4Runner and they said nothing about reliability issues with the V6, which is a good thing. Then I turned to Isuzu and they said Isuzu is only making the Ascender, which is basically a Chevy Trailblazer.

So what happened to the Rodeo and Axiom? I went to MSN auto and they said nothing about the Rodeo and Axiom leaving. I can find no forum on Edmunds talking about Isuzu problems. In the local paper there are no ads for Isuzu and the local dealer is gone. It is like they fell off the side of a cliff and no one noticed. Does anyone have a better idea what happened to them? What about their 10 year warranty?:confused:

The only vehicle Isuzu will feature is the Ascender. The Rodeo and Axiom were discontinued in July 2004. They don't sell too many Ascender's so I have no idea how they will stay in business. I heard that Isuzu may add another model in 2007.
 
They are a big player in the motherland making diesels. A Trooper that we owned was the biggest POS I have ever put a key into. Engine had to be rebuilt at 60K because of sludge/freezing up. Tranny went out at 30K and 65K. Knobs fell off and everything rattled. And they are rebadging Chevy Ascenders, there is not much hope for this company in NA.

I found them, they're advertising on this site! :D Well, indirectly at least - I saw this as one of the automated Google ads just now:

"Dare to compare

I don't know about that. In my experience I have family in South America still driving a solid ten year or more old trooper, that things got more than 400k km on it, its still going strong. When I drove it is was a bit choppy, stiff and the 5 speed was rougher than my t4r. It didn't drive bad though, I mean, it was a truck that was meant for reliability not comfort.
When I drove my LC-70 foreign edition it drove slightly better than the trooper, but its a truck. The true anti-mall cruiser i love them personally.
 
NA=North America

The POS we had wasn't built for SA=South America. The last generation of this vehicle was crap, the 80's box type model might have been better. Plus the vehicle in SA was probably diesel and/or w/o the US required smog systems. The Land Rover made for Australia is more reliable than its NA cousin, same as the Toyota's built for Afghanistan are different than what they sell in Omaha. Up until recently, most 2nd tier foreign vehicles sold in NA were not engineered to be driven reliably in NA.

The Isuzu mechanics showed me the inside of the engine as they were breaking it apart. It was black vaseline. Isuzu acknowledged it was a common occurence in this engine and replaced it with a new crate engine. A few miles later the tranny dropped out of the thing.

Boy, that convinced me, did you know that it is 2 inches longer, gets 2 MPG less in the city, but it can tow 300 more pounds than the Toyota V6. Maybe I should order 2 of them.:bouncy2:

Sound familiar? Same thing with the sludge. New engine (with same design flaw) was replaced under warranty and traded the rig for my 4Runner 2 weeks later.

BTW...I like your new Runner. The Isuzu dealer where our engine crapped out was in Lubbock. Maybe the Texas heat? Cheers.
