What is a 5th gen without.....

Yeah the SR5 works like your standard 4x4, but ATRAK kicks ass and has gotten me through several cross axel conditions that left lockerless jeeps in a nasty situation just ion front or behind me.

Now I've added a rear locker on my SR5 since, but before I had that, I was still kicking ass on a lot of other 4x4s on the trails!

All CDL (Center Differential Lock) does is forcibly split power from the transfercase 50/50; you'll still have two open differentials at each axle. That being said, it is very useful when you do need it (I rarely have used it); but ATRAC works pretty well. Though last outing in my V8 4th Gen for whatever reason ATRAC was just fighting me to get through the V-Notch (not sure why, but it just wasn't working right...)

On a side note-

I don't know what those LC100's were doing wrong; but that had to be driver error. I've been able to do Truck hill in 4Hi with CDL unlocked on my 4th gen no problem (similar All-Time 4WD as the LC100,) even last time with how dry/loose it was (coming down was entertaining since the brakes were full locked and the truck just slid on a layer of sand the entire way down lol.)

I think it was their tires. I have similar "car like" tires and did not feel confident going to places "less traveled".

I have had a good experience with Treadwright
Guard Dog tires (much better than the POS DuraTracs I had) so i'm going to order them for the new rig.

I'll have to get used to the massive weight of this vehicle and get some time in with ATRAC. This vehicle feels so much different than my 3rd gen toy, assorted Jeeps, International Terra, Ford F, Chevy trucks, etc. i've been through - on and off road.

Locking Rear Differential

For the last 18 years I've driven a very capable Jeep GC 4x4 with no locking rear differential. It's taken me on more than a few gnarly roads.
I've needed it a couple of times. Once I stopped on rocks with two opposite wheels off the ground. The car was see-sawing on two rocks. Wheels front and back just spun and the car wouldn't budge because I had a wheel off the ground both front and rear. I shoved a rock under one wheel and moved ahead, but I might have needed to use the jack at that point.
Other times in deep soft sand I've needed it to avoid spinning wheels. Mud can do the same thing, but it never rains here in So Cal so it hasn't been a problem for me. Yet.
I want that locking differential for those occasional times when I need it.

I grew up in the San Gabriel Valley. I've probably been on most of the known and unknown off-road trails in So Cal multiple times.

I do miss it sometimes but the trails up here keep me entertained. They are certainly different here - very green (no nearby desert).

Sometimes I even miss manual locking hubs. It seems like 4x4s were more durable back then.

I don't miss the smog :painkiller: and the San Gabriel mountains completely disappearing in the smog.

I'm confirming you are not only stupid but childish. good day.

Before you go trashing people and calling them names, I suggest, with your whopping 65 posts, you go read some of their past posts so you will get a feel of who people are here and what type of virtual community we have.

I'm surprised this thread even made it this far given the topic.

Nobody says "good day" anymore ever since Paul Harvey passed away...

I didn't come here to be judged on my post. I'm not into the popularity "click" so I don't care who he is. This isn't high school but it sure seems like there are children here with the arguments and bickering I see in threads.

His post did not contribute in a positive way. good day.

Thank you sir for making me feel better about myself. Always nice to know there is at least one person dumber than me.
I usually try to refrain from posting in threads that are over a year old unless I'm adding something to the conversation. But damn, I hope you don't make it a habit talk to your potential "customers" this way no matter what their vehicle knowledge may be. :wtf:

I'd expect better from someone trying to run a business in this industry. That's all. And I sure would hope that someone selling products has more knowledge than the consumer.

The comment on this thread was done a year before I even thought of opening my own company. To answer your question, no I do not talk to customers this way, the lack of knowledge and a good resource in the community is one of the reasons we opened.

Finding shops that are knowledgeable and willing to help the Toyota community are hard to find sometimes(around here especially). Around here if you don't drive American trucks or suvs shops won't hardly touch it, or even worse mess something up trying to work on it.

The OP even admits that it was a stupid question, even before I posted. Thus, me joking with what I said. I know finding tone in text is very hard, but if you knew me personally, you would know being mean is not me. Im sorry what I said not directed towards you offended you enough to bring up an old thread.

Feel free to ask any of my past and/or current customers how I conduct business. Everyone of them have nothing but good things to say. Fell free to check out all of my posts, here and especially on FB among the many different groups, I'm an active positive presence answering questions left and right, being helpful.

And to the OP (if you are still active on here), if I rubbed you the wrong way also, I'm sorry.

Merry Christmas
Happy New Year

Josh
