I picked up my '96 a few months back, well maintained, surprisingly well. Sitting just under 351k. Been going through and replacing the "standard" things (radiator, hoses, etc.) as I go. Besides the valve cover gaskets leaking, the only thing that really needed changing was the O2 sensors. That and the A/C is out, no belt so figure the compressor is shot. All new components being collected now.

If the seats were more comfortable would have no qualms about driving it cross-country. Turning it into my trail truck and now putting on more dirt miles than pavement

Mine has about 255k on it and I gave it hell when going to school in Wyoming for four years. Little things like the power steering has a slow leak and miscellaneous stuff like I snapped the rear sway bar bracket off (mostly my fault) happen.

My dad growing up bought every Toyota 4x4 in good condition he could find for $5k, regardless of miles. If the body is in good shape they will last, especially the technology on the new ones. My FJ's 4.0 is the perfect balance of efficiency and power. Heck even my '92 SR5 pickup with the 3.slow has 230k and runs like a top.

Amazes me the money people throw around for jeeps and trucks that will not outlast my old toyotas.

227,xxx on our 2001 Limited 4x4. I bought and set it up for our home in Tucson. We did one trip and felt it was too small.
We purchased a GX470 for the trails there. We put the 4runner for sale, then decided to keep it too.

Toyotas are rock solid. My 99 4runner only has 150k on it but I just bought an 03’ Tundra with over 200k (and a brand new frame- thanks Toyota!) and I swear it is nicer than a lot of the 5-10 year trucks I was looking at initially. I would jump into either and drive to the opposite coast or down the PanAm Highway to Patagonia with zero hesitation.

I like how the first posts in this thread are people saying 250k is too high, and now half the trucks I see available are close to that territory lol. At some point this all just comes down to maintenance history.

If I were buying one I'm not sure if I'd buy one over 150k. If your talking about just owning one I'd say 225-250k would be high.

DANG! don’t buy anything over 150k?! Shit man I’m looking at 3rd gens around me (Sacramento Ca) that have like 180-280 on the clock. I’m considering spending like 6-7knfor something w 200-220 w all the necessary engine work done PLUS front suspension, lift, wheels, tires, and clean interior. Am I crazy?!
