What is it worth?

Thinking of selling my Runner. I need a bigger vehicle and no garage space...:sobbing:
I have been looking around and it is really tough to tell what this thing is worth now. So I ask the folks that know best to give me an honest opinion of what she is worth. So here goes-

1987 SR5 22-RE 4cy manual
Bone stock 80k on the clock
New 31-10.5 R15 Falken Rocky Mountain tires less than 1,000 miles
New clutch- bearings- flywheel main seal- master and slave clutch cylinder less than 1,000 miles
New brake lines
New front calipers
New Ebrake cables all the way back- Original handle
New rear window frame
All systems work
Very little rust- chrome still in tact

Wow! That's one nice looking truck! On eBay, I've seen trucks with low miles and in good shape go for over 10 grand.

I was gonna say between 5 and 8 grand, depending on how long you wanna sit on it.

With that low mileage 4 runner, I'd play a game on ebay with that one! List it with a reserve of 9 grand, see what it ends up going for, and if it doesn't get met, re-list at the amount it was at when the auction closed.

You'd be surprised how many people will continue to bid blindly until they hit the reserve!

Nice truck. Assuming clean title, no accidents, mechanically excellent -- If you can prove the underbody (floorboards, frame, etc) are relatively rust free, then you could be looking at a 5-figure truck. Although, I'm not sure what the general market feels about the red interior? Personally that would steer me clear of the truck despite the low miles.
Coming from experience of selling many cars in my time - take the time to gather information and proof upfront. Stand out from the lazy sellers out there.
Good luck to you!

There was a pristine looking 85 on eBay last year that went for $10k. 125kmi.

Condition seems to matter more than miles. Anything less than 100kmi is rare, but not unheard of.

I think you'd be lucky to get $10k. $5k easy sell probably.

'85 was a solid front axle & more desirable. The red interior is a love it or hate it. I'm sorry but I just couldn't deal with that red.
However, looks to be in great shape. Altimeter. I agree it's $5k all day long but don't think you would ever see $10k.

Thanks everyone for your input.

penbergm: you're right, the 85 is definitely more desirable. But hard to find in good shape anymore.

shawski:No accidents, mechanically sound as the new parts mentioned were done by me when I got it. I was my grandfathers when he bought new. I actually have a notebook of every mile driven and fill up as he used it for work. I agree the red is pretty out there. I am not sure how many were made though so may become rare?

flyinhawaiian01: That is a great idea thanks! I am going to freshen up a few more items on it yet but that is a surely an idea i will kick around thanks!

From your pics, that's easily a 4-5k truck here. Based on the condition, I think 7-8k would be pushing it, but you could certainly list it there and see what happens.

I think value depends on where you are located. Here in eastern WA, 4Runners are a hot commodity. Western WA doesn't get much snow, so they are less desirable. There are more 4x4 buyers than 4x4's, and Toyotas are at the top of the list. I'm not sure about MN, but around here, if it runs and drives, it is worth at least $2000. If it has less than 150K miles, add another $1000. If it looks decent, add another $1000. If it looks as good as yours, count on at least $5500. If you wait for the right buyer, count on at least $6500. That's just around here.

He is right i live in western WA and my bro in law paid 3000 i think for a 85 with shit interior and paint with a little pit of rust

I paid 3500 for mine with a just rebuilt engine and decent interior and ugly exterior.

thats ur 2nd gen right? I wouldnt take less than 3500 for mine with the lift and everything. Im also not into mine very much. I think ive got 2000 into mine total purchase price included. Id post mine at 5000 as a starting point with the lift and 35's. and id probably get 4500 for it. is your paint crappy or just the gold color?

Unfortunately for MN there are just not a lot of places to really wheel. A couple of trails maybe up north but nothing for sure within decent distant from twin cities area. So we have more 4X4's than buyers...

Its severely oxidized from the AZ sun. But it's gold.

I can't offer any valuable opinion on price point, but my '88 is the same color combo and I love it. "Whore House Red" is what we call these on my Audi forums and it's a classic 80's combination with the white exterior.

The good thing that i have noticed about all the gold runners ive seen around is that it seems that they all have the tinted windows. Ive been piecing together my stock tinted windows from my parts truck and the junkyard. All i have left is the rear roll up window.

Yup, came up on late 80's Audis and VW's. Currently have a B7 S4. I used to work at a local Euro dealer. One of these trucks came up for trade on a Land Rover Defender 90 and I tried to buy it before he traded it in and almost got fired for it. That was over 20 years ago and I finally got first one in May of this year.

Yea I have no tint at all. I get sunburned driving to school. It sucks.
