What is it?

Found the cable loose, not sure where it but found an eye type connector on the positive battery cable it appears the other end was attached to? Removed cables last night to charge battery, may have broke loose then. Comments, or suggestions on either question would be appreciated!

*If the cable does attached to the battery can I crimp another eye connector?

*What appears is a filter of some type, purpose unknown, could it have been damaged as a result?

Thank you, Dave

Its a power wire and fuse for a amplifier for the audio do you have a. Amp and subwoofer out back.? If not no need to hook it back up

Believe I have the standard but high end speaker set up that originally came with the vehicle and it's working fine. Some 20 plus years ago had an alarm system installed, there's already 1 power wire as a source, although I removed the fuse? It does appear the cable came out of the eye type connector, intend taking it to local auto parts for replacement, reconnect, whether it serves a purpose or not, but continue to test the various circuits.

Thank you for the input!

I vote you turn the truck on and see if anything that used to turn on doesn't anymore. :jk:
You could try following the cable to see which way it goes if it goes out of the engine bay.

The cable in question joins 2-3 other circuits wrapped in plastic flex type conduit, too lazy at this time to cut and search. As best as I can determine, all is workin? No sure about the inline contraption, does not appear to be a fuse to me? If I were to hazard a guess, kinda leaning towards the vehicle alarm system?? I will continue to explore until I something does not work?

Appreciate the input!!

check your positive battery lug to see if you have an extra loop connector (the other half that broke off the end of the cable)

Yes, found an extra loop connector w/out a cable. Have since replaced the loop connector and reattached the cable. Also, took a close look at the inline doohickie and it does appear to be a fuse, strangest I have ever come across.

Thank you for the input!!

It looks like about 4 or 2 awg wire which is usually for an amp or even an air compressor at times. You'll probably have a ground wire somewhere in the truck also if they left that behind too. My rule of thumb is to never trust a previous owners installation if it involves a custom installed power wire. Keep it safe so you don't run the risk of catching your rig on fire

Dont supply power to it until you know where the other end is. For all you know it could be loose and not connected to anything. If you power it up and it touches a ground source it'll pop your fuse. Make sure its terminated properly if you power it up.

Recall working in that area of the engine compartment in the past and recall the cable was connected to a source, but I did not pay attn. where. Searched the general area for the possible source and appears the 'empty eye loop' connector is a reasonable possibly? As mentioned, I charged the battery the previous night and possibly the cable came loose at that time? Probly should remove until determine what the other end attaches to, better safe than sorry?

Again, I thank U all for the input!!

For sure man. I've just had bad experiences with other people doing wire work on my rig so I've kind of chosen to just do it all myself now. If the wire is good then that's a score at least cause those can get spendy

Drove approx. 20 miles this a.m. when the engine began overheating and white smoke bellowing out the exhaust. Made it to the shop and now awaiting estimate on the cost for repairs. Shop of opinion possibly head gasket, it's like sliding down the slippery money sloop? O'Well!

Yup. Sounds like the head gasket, probably #6 cylinder. Do it yourself for $500-800 and some time, or whatever they quote you.
And I'm sure you'll have a few with the opinion that now is a good time to swap to a 3.4 or something else. Personally, I love banging my head against the wall, and I've done a couple of head gasket jobs on these rides

It is what is it; although I have assembled a few early model Ford 60's and 70's engines, which are as basic as it gets, I do not feel that comfortable taking on this Toyota engine!! Unfortunately, the shop does not rebuild or swap engines; depending upon the cost, may call around and find a reputable shop in the area that does. Intend having the timing belt and any other component they will be removing in the process, imagine replacing the valve cover gaskets will be included. Figure it's going to cost me between $1500-$2000, after having the transmission and transfer case rebuilt 1 month ago, appears I am stuck in the mud at the bottom of the slippery sloop and will be for the duration?

Thank you for the input!

Not sure if you've looked into this yet but toyota did a recall on the head gaskets of the 2nd gens for a while. I think there were certain requirements you had to fit into but you could research your vin and see if yours has had it before

Replaced the head gaskets under the original Toyota recall notice; seem to recall it was a 1 time fix; with 210k miles, imagine the recall no longer applies.

Just received a quote, O'My, twice what I thought it would be? Found a couple rebuild and/or engine swap shops in the area, will call to confirm if knowledgeable swapping the 3.0 for the 3.4; regardless, if I can swap a 3.0 rebuilt engine for approx. same cost of repairing the original it appear exchange would be the best route to go??

Thank you for the Input!!

Damn man. That's bad news bears. Hopefully you can find a good donor motor for it. There's a lot of em out there new and used. I'm sure everyone will recommend the 3.4 if you're gonna go through the work. It really is an overall better motor and swaps right in from my understanding. Best of luck man!

Just returned after talking with shop manager, think we are both on the same page regarding crated vs repair. Pleasantly surprise to find they do swap, and/or rebuild, and has a source for replacement engines. I did mention swapping for the 3.4 but at minimum of $100/hr plus, if shop staff are not familiar with the upgrade they may not be incline to go that route, and I am okay with that.

Really can not complain, despite the fact I have neglected the T4r over these many years, up to this point it has been a reliable family vehicle.

I thank you for the input!!
