What is something you wish you HADN'T done to your 4Runner?

So far not really a whole lot of unsatisfied feelings with mods on my rig, if anything I’d reconstruct my 3rd row delete panel I made, next is I need to finish my sliders. One thing actually is the location of my cb antenna, IF I hadn’t bought and setup everything I would have gone with the splitter and short firestick that replaces the stock radio antenna

Cut out the bottom of my center console for a nice cb. I mean it’s fine, but that time and effort would have been better spent studying for a Ham license and I’m mostly otherwise using gmrs radio with my buddies. I’d value that space back more I think...

This sweet front bumper mod I got after parking behind my sister in her driveway....
I wish I did not hit a deer on my way from the dealership. Brand new 2016 model on the day I bought it.
Also, I wish I knew that the front differential was only engaged when 4x4 is selected. I have never exercised it at the factory suggested interval, during the first year of ownership.
I assumed it was the same configuration as my Jeep where the front diff is always rotating. Same assumption was made when I chose a part time 4x4 model of my 4Runner. The Jeep's full time system is a lot more convenient and it does have a neutral (it can be towed behind an RV without damaging transmission).
O well, I like the 4Runner anyway. It rides great and has sufficient legroom to accomodate my 6'4" frame. This was the reason to buy a model with the 3rd seat row. A regular model had less legroom but I hate the fact that I can't fold the seats flat in my model.

CB sucks! The range is terrible and there is not much going on the channels. Ham radio is a totally different dimension. I have both 50W VHF/UHF and a 100 watt HF (shortwave) radios in my 4Runner. I routinely talk to stations in Europe, Africa, South America etc. No repeaters, phones or Internet is required. It works anywhere, any place, country or continent.
Agreed, helped my dad install his radio in his 2nd gen he just got, learned a bit from it over the years but me and electrical work don’t like to play together.

Getting HD Suspension system right from the get go without any extra weight on the vehicle, but on the flip side it looks great.

-Icon 2” standard load springs, the ride height was uneven by a full inch side to side.
-Rago hidden grill light bar setup. Their brackets were fine, their relay holder was junk, the light bar was not worth it, and the wiring harness was total shit. For a completed “kit” I find I barely use it because the beam pattern is not a good mix for behind the grill, you basically get one hot spot of light directly in front.
PrecisionLED Premium bulb kit (plate lights, puddlemlights, door panels, dome lights, hatch lights, vanity mirrors, etc). Very expensive while being terribly quality. The bulbs were dieing left and right, they didn’t want to stand by their warranty because they were sending me so many replacements. They claimed my 4Runner had an electrical problem that was killing their bulbs, etc. I switched to Phillips Vision and have had zero issues since.

The front differential is always engage, it’s physical gears that are permanently meshed. None of the trim levels even have an option for lockable front diff.

Ball joints were crap. Both were worn and one had a hole in the boot after a very short time.

Buying anything from PrecisionLED. The light output sucks, they're expensive, the trim removal tools are cheap garbage. I should have done what I did on my 3rd gen and just gotten them all from superbrightleds.com. I replaced the PrecisionLED ones in the lift gate with some from superbrightleds and they're sooooo much better.

buying e rated ko2's and never off-roading them. Thought they would be a good tire for a daily commuter. Nope. They killed my MPG.
Since then I went with LARGER P-rated tires AND LIFTED my truck, and the MPG is STILL better than when I had stock shocks with the smaller e rated ko2's.
