What is the appeal of clear corners on your 4Runner?

I'm curious as to what the appeal of clear corners is?

To me, I like the stock amber corners, or other amber corners because it gives the headlights some defintion - not just one big clear light or something... But that's me personally.

Not trying to put anyone down, just curious what everyone's thinking...

I can't speak for the clear corner guys, as I am in the other...corner...however I can say that it's just an aesthetic thing, amber sticks out and usually like a sore thumb (in their eyes) and the whites just "blend" better and accent the paint scheme rather than stick out in it.

I like amber because it's authentic Japanese heritage and tradition. Of which the car is descendant. Other make cars, I like clear. All depends on the model and paint color for me.

It's also Canadian tradition as it is in our road laws that the front fenders must have somewhere on it, a reflective light and some amber. Same on the back, must have a reflective and some *red. Sorry clear corner and blacked out tails guys :hello:

I'm with you on this. I don't like the looks of clear, or tinted corners/taillights.

LOL, I saw it and it was another reminder that I've been wondering about the appeal of clear corners... If you like 'em, I say go for it, $20 seems like a good deal, personally.

I think it looks a lot cleaner, when I swapped to 99 headlights and clear corners it improved the look of the vehicle drastically.

I think the factory style 99-02 corner lenses look the best.

Its just my opinion but the clear corners make 4Runners look like cheap euro trash. I keep imagining a Civic with peeling paint.

I upgraded from the 97 to 99-02 factory style from eBay and haven't looked back.

Due to Canadian law, the corner lamps must have amber reflectors as stated, so I've had to change the clear corners out on both my import trucks just to pass safety and get insurance. I could go either way on the looks personally.

They came stock on '96-'02 Hilux Surf's. And I agree, color makes a difference in how sharp the clears can look. On my blurple surf, I actually preferred the ambers, but I dig that silver truck with clears. White is another color that would really make them pop.

I think the clear corners and bumper lights look a lot better on the lighter colored 4Runners (Desert Dune, white, silver, etc.). And, they also look good on 4Runners with chrome bumpers. Eliminating the amber definitely cleans up the look of the front end, which can have a lot of different colors competing in the front (black, white, chrome, amber, plus the 4Runner color).

Once you start looking at 4Runners that are darker, especially ones with color matched bumpers that eliminate most of the chrome aspects from the front, I think you start to lose the aesthetic benefit of the streamlined clear corners. It's a fine line.

Then again, that's just my personal preference. I've got clear corners and bumper lights on mine (98 Desert Dune SR5 with chrome bumpers) and I think it looks better. But, every once in a blue moon, I do look at it and wonder what I'm doing with lights that look like they might have been stolen from a 16-year-old trying to fix up his Civic. I've held onto the original lights in case some day I ever change my mind back.

Thinking back on it, I have to agree. Darker colors almost need the amber lights or they look ghetto/ricey. Black is an exception there. Mine is Natural White, and it is an obvious quick and inexpensive aesthetic upgrade for what I have planned with the rest of the truck.

If anyone has clears they want to trade for some '99 ambers let me know.

Total agreement with this. On my Millennium silver it was a no brainer, the yellow just stuck out.

Agreed, I don't mind the amber on the dark colors.

I like how oem clear corners give a seamless and uninterrupted look without reflectors.
