That part i do not know, i would think it would need to be shipped freight but i can be wrong.
what is the easiest way to swap out front and rear diff gears?!

do u have the factory 4.88's??? i know some 2nd generations have those. in that case the rear axle is different to, like your diff will rub the inside of the other guys axle houseing. i believe the factory 4.88's are taller than normal stock gears. might want to know these little details before trading....
in conclusion.... if yours are factory 4.88's the other guy needs your whole rear axle and i think u might need his to. atleast this is what ive read. if anyone else knows different please enlighten me

can i just fab mine to make them fit?? and if mine is allready taller it needs to be even taller then what it is now for 5.29? and yess i have 4.88s

are they stock 4.88's? like did the truck come with them from the factory?
and from what ive read ONLY the stock 4.88's are taller, you can regear others and it will be the same size as the others just more or less teeth. hold on i will go look up a web page that u can read it might make a little more sence to you.

As far as i know the stock 4.88's are the same size, it's all a 8 inch diff.

i cant find the stupid sight i was reading this at, i know they are different than other stock gears. because i was looking at some and i was going to have to buy the whole rear axle instead of just the diff... i read it on a page that went through the history of toyota diffs from late 70's to late 90's but i have no idea where it is...

You sure your thinking of the 8 inch 4.88's and not the 8.4 inch 4.88's?

again thats wht i was thinking....i dont think they would make the ring gear bigger.....i think its just how many teeth it has

Yes, only reason why i would think it is bigger is if it came out of the 8.4 inch rear end which is Tacoma's and T100's pretty much.

1986-1995 IFS front diff's are the same.

HA!!!! i found it haha... took awhile... here go read through this and it says that the factory 4.88's are UNIQUE lol front what i understand they cant be swapped into normal housing.... maybe im reading it wrong???

Good find however this is what it say's
- Housing offsets pinion towards ring gear, allowing ring gear to be thinner
- OEM Toyota gears are the ONLY gears that fit this diff due to the thinner ring gear. All other gear sets have thicker ring gears and do not fit.
The 4.88's have a thinner ring gear. Also you can only use Toyota OEM gear's in the 4.88 diff. However it doesn't say it's different. It mean's that when he blow's his 4.88 gear's he will have to buy OEM gear's not a Yukon or anything like that cause the OEM ring gear is thinner, that's the only thing different.

The housing is the same, it wouldn't hurt a thing. It is the ring gear that is different and that's all. He is good to go.
