What is the point?

I see a lot of lifted 3/4 ton trucks. Probably more than any other lifted vehicle around here. Yeah, they're cool and look like Bigfoot. But what other purpose does a huge lifted truck serve? I guess in the sand and dessert the lift helps. But the closest desert is a few thouand miles away and the local beaches aren't all that.

A 20' vehicle weighing 6500 pounds, 52' turning circle, standing 9' tall seems to go against all off-road logic.

I can't see much point to it either, other than looks or crossing very deep water.

On a trail they are next to useless - Too wide, too heavy, poor centre of gravity.

Never seen one on a trail. See them towing lots tho - usually big boats or toy trailers.

Most of them are just for looks. The one in the pic definetly.

My neighbor's brother did that to his Dodge p/u. Just for the looks. He won't even drive it in the rain much less offroad it.

i havent seen 3/4 ton touch a trail but i have seen 1/2 ton pickups like the ram 1500 and the ford 150 on trails and mudding.. they wont rock crawl though.

yeah its all looks and they do look pretty good sometimes but i doubt they spend 50k on their truck and take it to the dirt.

Wow your sensitive if you think the above quotes are "hating".
I think the replies have been pretty balanced really. Several have given props to looks, the fun of modding, towing, showing off etc. You can say that's hating.

As to not having or can't, well your on your own there buddy. I don't have and don't want one. They don't suit my purposes, as would be the case for many on this forum.

I never understoofd the point of wasting good useable performance parts just for the sake of showing them off and never using them;kinda like dating Jessica Biel and showing her off but never having sex with her.

I don't see any hating in this thread, personally. Bluto did ask what the point of lifting, say a 3/4 ton truck, was. It really wouldn't be for off-roading, as it's just too big of a truck to do well in off-road situations. And in my opinion, its not hating on things that they don't or can't have. members have stated that the truck is nice, just don't see a point to spending the money if you're not going to off-road it.

I think it's a nice truck, and cool for show. But I'd have to agree, why put the off-road performance parts on it when you can't do a lot of off-roading with it. But I'm one of those people that never really saw much of a point for a show car. I'd go for performance before show, but I like both. For example, I'd put say $3000 towards a turbo before a lip kit, but I'd still get a lip kit. A proper mixture of both is ideal.

I said I like the look. I was not being sarcastic. I wanted to know if others have seen them off the pavement. They park at the entrance to trails I've driven. Full-sized trucks are popular in the beaches of NC. But they're just beaches, not dunes, nothing special. You could drive a CRV on them.

yes they are, i went to uncw last year and they are all over the place, and we went and partied plenty of times out at carolina beach and im glad that i had 4wd, not that it was tough to get out there but it was a little challenge.

Ive gotta admit no CRV is making it out there, as soon as it got caught in the wrong ruts, itd be done. Most of my friends who drove dodge dakotas and other stock trucks wouldnt do it. So it was my 4runner and a friends defender.

Back on topic, if you go to wilmington(wrightsville beach) youll see plenty of the rich folk cruisin in there lifted H2's towing some sweet speed boats. I garentee you that truck in that picture is fast as hell too.

Yeah, things can get pretty technical and deep depending on where you go. I'll be in Nags Head in September and looking for advice on where to drive.

I can tell you first hand raising the center of gravity does not help with towing. Just another trade off.

Turbo diesels are no joke.

here is one next to my lifted tacoma. sheer looks and thats it. hell it didn't even have a front driveshaft. spent all of that time one custom suspension parts and couldn't even shave the front axel to correct the pinion angle.:bonk:
