What is this and why is it leaking?

I'm guessing this is it - but just one? I thought there was a tranny breather supposed to be next to it? Is there any method to determine if the line is clogged or not?

Sorry to be a PITA, but I'm definitely learning something new every day and my 4R is the first vehicle I have taken a real interest in understanding the mechanics of it and thanks to this community I have already learned a ton.

Everyone that says there are two breathers there are either just passing along incomplete information they've seen on here or looking at their 2001 or 2002 4runner and assuming all 3rd gens are the same in that respect. Your 2000 only has one and it came that way from the factory. Your transmission breather is located at the very top of your transmission.

edit: yes the arrow is pointing to it and as for checking if it's clogged, the only way I know of is to remove it or the hose at the other end and test.

Got it - thanks. There's one creek Im going to cross on a regular basis that's 1-2 ft deep so I'll extend the rear while I'm checking out the front and doing a couple other fun things to the rig this weekend.
