i noticed this when i was passing some wires through the rubber boot in the firewall. not sure what its for.

I am pretty sure all 4runners have it like that. I am also curious to find out what its for!:fishing:

the bolts in red are to secure the dash but im not sure about the tab circled in blue

Mine is exactly like that as well, since the day I picked it up new.

man, over 300 views and nobody knows what this thing was put there for. thats crazy.

It was probably meant for something Toyota planned, but was omitted during production. Maybe it was for a cover to hide the wiring under the dash. My Mazda had a cover like that from the lower dash panel.

It's like all those threaded holes on the fender well under the hood on the driver's side near the fuse block. On mine, they collect water and rust.

Must be something just on the 4th gens, my 2002 does not have that, ....., maybe a place for auxillary light switch or something that can be added on aftermarket.
