What is this hole for in rear storage/wheel well?

I just found this the other day in my rear passenger side storage (in the trunk area).

It looks like it was drilled through. It goes through to the wheel well and under coating with no plug.

Was there some accessorie or compressor that went in there

It definitely looks like it was drilled through. Can you tell which side it was drilled from?
Can't say I've seen something like that before, maybe the guy that owned it before you had done some mods or had some wires running through it before he sold it to you?

I would say it was drilled from the inside out; it looks like it 'broke through' in the wheel well.

It definately looks like there was a tube or hose going through as the interior plastic is formed in that shape.

I jsut cant figure out what could have gone there...

Maybe he was bolting something down or mounting something inside that storage area.
