What is this part (knuckle) and how do I replace it?

Working on the 4runner over the weekend. Simple easy weekend mods right?
Replace the wheel bearings and while i am at it, snatch the CV axle out and replace the boots, repack the grease, lube up etc. and viola... all done...

Not so fast. Started looking in the knuckle and saw this.

So what is this part called, the little inner seal with the coiled metal retainer band that slips inside the lip of the black seal...part number? and i figured it is pressed in there some how and how do i replace it? see pics. It is torn on the inside of the knuckle and the retainer spring is bent in those torn places. The outside was fine. (passenger side)

I did so some searching and got some results, i just want to be 102% sure.

No one mentions those metal spring rings tucked behind the lip of the seal.

If someone can post links to the part numbers/diagrams and removal/installation that would be great.

I think these links are correct, but the second link seems to be spot on. Just need to confirm part numbers. It appears you can press these in with plywood, C-clamps and a lawn mower blade. Still curious on how to get that thing out.

The springs are part of the seal itself and come as part of the new seal. This is common for those type of seals (used in anything from crankshaft to output shaft, to axleshaft seals, ect.)

Definately this. Changed it when I did my hub bearings. Pop it out from the backside of the spindle with a screwdriver. Installation was a pain in the arse. I used one of the black, cv shaft nut, dust shields to help me tap the seal in with a hammer. Then I had to buy a new dust shield lol

To drive the new seal in, take your old one down to AutoZone and go to the exhaust pipe section. They have short unions (about 4 inches long) for joining two pipes, for about $3 each, in all different sizes. Find one the right size to contact the outer ring of the seal. Take it home and grind the end smooth and flat so it doesn't cut the seal rubber and voila, you have a custom driver.

Oil the new seal up good before driving it in. It should tap in pretty easily without a lot of drama. Just get it started straight.

Parts are ordered, now for my next trick is re-booting my CV axles.

I used a piece of wood and a rubber mallet to get that seal in, it's a royal PIA.
