What is this trim piece called?

'99 Limited, the part that runs underneath both doors from wheel well to wheel well. Tried to do a search to see if anyone has documented how to remove it, but not sure I'm using the correct term. Rocker molding? Rocker trim?
I'm wanting to take it off and paint it with bed liner.

There are one of these at each end:

And 5 or 6 of these in between:

If you've removed yours, any tips/info would be appreciated.

This person repainted their flares and the part your talking about. You should be able to get it off by removing all the screws. I don't think there are any clips holding those sections on.

Thanks. I skimmed through that thread a while back, but didn't catch the part about the rocker panel. As for the clips, he says "Be prepared to break clips here". [MENTION=55872]runnyrunnerton[/MENTION] - which clips are used for the rocker panels, red or blue?

He is referring to the door trim as "rocker panel" trim, not the section you're talking about. I just looked back through there and it says "on the door rocker panel". I'm pretty certain he didn't talk about removing them, but you can see them hanging in his picture with new primer on them.

From the way he describes it - "On the bottom it has 7 plastic screw rivets. Lefty loosey righty tighty. The rocker has two exterior mounted bolts one mounted vertically near the rear door and one mounted horizontally under the front door" - I'm pretty sure that is the piece he's talking about. I said 5 or 6 screws in my first post, but I just counted and there are actually 7 like he says.

My 97 limited has clips holding these pieces on. Different people call them different things. It's OK if the clips on the door-side break, as they are replaceable. But the actual mounts on the trim/flare piece itself (that the clips plug into) -- if those break, you are SOL with these pieces. At that point, you are looking to glue them on the damn door. I know this because I just had all of these pieces painted on my truck -- some of my mount point things are broken on the panels themselves and we are having to use either double-back tape or windshield glue to make them stick on the door. But since I have no screws and yours do, the 99 may have a different setup entirely. Taking the screws out and finding out is not really a painful process.

I appreciate the input, but I don't think we're talking about the same pieces. The ones I'm asking about do not attach to the doors, they are underneath them. MStudt was correct in his second post - they are the ones hanging in the back in this picture from the thread he referenced:

Wow my write up is being referenced! I'll do another one when I swap my gears! The bottom trim pieces which I will call "lower rocker panels" were connected by Phillips or metric head screws at the ends and auto zone plastic expansion screws on the bottom. I missed this in the write up as these were an easy items to reuse and replace when they broke. The blue and red clips only fit in the square holes on the vertically mounted rocker panels. I had to remount the broken plastic ones with some kind of adhesive that escapes me now. But long story short the lower rocker panels that span driver to passenger door are held on by very common expansion plastic screw things. :bounce:

It is just the lower piece of the limited cladding. Only needed to make the cladding on the doors flush all the way under the truck.
