What kind of transfer case oil should I used

On a 95 V6 with auto transmission. I got confused by the manual.
Since the manual state:
4cyl. - gear oil (75W90)
6cyl. maunal - gear oil (75W90)
but
6 cycl. auto. - Dextron II ???

I just wonder if it is a typo or they use different fluid just for auto v6 transfer case?

I'm pretty sure that on the auto, the transfer case and transmission share fluid. I'm not sure if there is anywhere separate where you have to add the fluid to the transfer case, or if just filling the transmission takes care of the transfer case.

Thanks! I think I need to make sure they used their own fluid.. since just change the auto trans fluid. I don't want to drain it again.

I recently changed the ATF in my 1992 4R 4WD. There are two drain plugs , one is on the transmission pan and the other is just a bit more toward the back,, found on the bottom of the transfercase. My 92 took just a bit over 6 quarts of Dexron III to refill it. The transfer case shares fluid with the A340H transmission. After the drain and refill, drive the 4R a bit with the transfer case both in and out of 4WD. Get the drive train hot and then check the fluid level as you normally would. All the refill fluid goes in thru the dip stick tube.

PS - Don't leave it in 4WD driving it around the block,, that's a lil hard on the parts.

I may be retracting my earlier statement- I will investigate further the AT lubricating with dexron further.

If the transfer case is a separate gearbox-then likely gear lube.

I do not know your model tranny, & transfer case. I would research model numbers of both on line. The specs including lube are published in detail-just takes some searching.
It is critical so I would not guess or settle for less than a few confirming sources of information.

The torque converter is typically lubed with the tranny fluid on automatic transmissions.

However -both transfer case and torque converter are often abbreviated" TC" !
