What kind of wood for sleeping platform?

Going on a road trip in a few weeks and need to build a sleeping platform. I'm not sure what kind of wood to use, I've checked threads but couldn't find anything that detailed. it needs to be strong enough to hold up two people, but it also needs to be as light as light as possible. Thanks.

go with the furniture grade plywood lowes or home depot sell, maybe 40 bucks a sheet these days at 1/2"?? its got a nice smooth appearance grade side and is plenty strong, especially with a little bracing.

3/4 " shop birch or shop maple, can pick up a sheet in the $45.00 range. good quality ply.

I second 1/2" furniture grade plywood, it's what I used and has held up very well and is quite a bit lighter than 3/4".

sleeping platform

I just built a sleeping platform yesterday actuall and I used 3/4" plywood. It is so solid. you will have no problem with at least 350 lbs on it. You can check out my build thread if you have any ideas. Its at the very end.
