What maintenance do I need at 120k '98 4Runner 4x4.

I just got my oil changed, drive belts changed, new tires, recently got my front brakes done and also my rear brakes.

They all needed attention so I got them done.

Any prevention maintenance I need to do at this point?

I might need a tune up that I can think of.

The basic service is: (Recommended Services)
Replace engine oil and oil filter
Rotate tires
Replace engine coolant
Replace engine air filter
Replace spark plugs
Lubricate propeller shaft and re-torque bolts (all 4WD)


and then they will try to sell you this:


Additional Inspection Items:
Transmission and differential oil
Inspect nuts and bolts on chassis and body
Replace transfer case oil (4WD)
Replace timing belt (except 4 cyl)

Additional maintenance items
for special operating conditions:
Inspect ball joints and dust covers
Inspect brake linings, disc/drums
Inspect steering linkages
Inspect differential oil
Inspect transfer case oil (4WD models)
Inspect brake lines and hoses
Inspect exhaust pipes and mountings
Inspect steering gear box
Inspect fuel lines and connections, fuel tank band and fuel tank vapor vent system hoses
Inspect fuel tank cap gasket
Inspect transmission fluid or oil
Inspect drive belts
Charcoal canister
Inspect drive shaft boots

I actually went by there yesterday and they tried to sell me on most of what's listed.

The thing is that it was mostly inspection, like INSPECT WIPER BLADES. I mean, COME ON! Inpect WIPER BLADES? Anyhow, they were charging me alot so I said forget it and decided to come here to see what i REALLY need done, and if I can possibly do it myself.

I already have new drive belts.

I would stick to the basics:

Replace engine oil and oil filter

Replace engine air filter

Plus I would

Change transmission and differential oil
Replace transfer case oil (4WD)

I would pick & choose what you need and with that many miles I may decide to go to a good independent dealer.

lol, reminds me of another thread here where the service mgr. told the customer one of the items to inspect on his 04 runner was rear drum brakes. my reply was to have them look thru the rims and ask the mgr what that silver thing is behind the rim (in a nutshell).
