What runs have you enjoyed?

Hey everyone, I am new to this forum (if you happened to notice my join date it is today). Anyways, as of last month I am the very proud owner of a 2001 4runner v6 3.4l 2wd.
I have done some searching and haven't found much so I decided to make this thread. What runs or meets have you guys done in the so cal area that you really enjoyed? I have never been off roading and am really itching to get my truck dirty. I am looking for great places to just have a lot of fun that don't require much experience, preferably dessert to take advantage of the fact that it's winter. Also, if there are upcoming meets i would love to know and show my support. Thanks so much in advance!

I got the same truck a couple weeks ago I did a run from silverwood lake to arrowhead a lot of fun was really surprised how well my truck did, did everything 4x4 did if you wanna ever go let me know

My truck was a 2WD for the first 3 years I owned it. I did lots of cool trails with the guys just based on this subforum alone. Arrowhead, Big Bear, all sorts of stuff.

I converted my truck to a 4WD, now I'm really out having a blast. There's no comparison at all. If 2WD is capable, then 4WD is super-duper-extra-mega-capable. I used to think that I wasn't doing half bad with 2WD and Truetrac, but 4WD takes you to new heights (literally, 7600ft in the snow ).

2WD trucks won't be able to do the trails that 4WD trucks can do. Ask me how I know, haha. We usually have alternate routes so the 2WD and 4WD folks can both have fun. It's nice that the mountain trails usually accommodate for the lesser capable vehicles.

If you guys become off-road junkies, and since your trucks are so new to you, consider selling and buying a 4WD. It sounds like a pain to go through all that trouble again just for one feature, but take it from me, it's absolutely 2000% worth it... if you're looking to wheel.

I have always been an off road junkie, just got into trucks about a couple years ago, raced motocross all my life till I had my son. Wish I could afford a 4wd really do maybe in the near future. How hard was it to convert ur truck? I would really like to do that or idk make it more off road capable for a 2wd what do u recommend ?

Some offroad tires, suspension lift and recovery gear can get you through quite a bit. I would say to at least upgrade the tires first.

ya I got fresh nittos and a suspension lift well about a year old airing down and having a good spotter was amazing but I do want a 4wd really bad

Yeah I totally get where you guys are coming from. The problem I had is that I am a college student, and just bought my 4 by myself. I grew up in orange county but go to school in San Diego and make that trip several times a month. The 4wd just simply wasn't a practical option for me. That said, I am totally willing to make my 2wd as capable as possible while still functioning well as a daily driver.

well if you ever wanna do a 2wd run im down mine is to a dd for me and my family i got everything recovery etc... just send me a pm we can meet up sometime
