What should I do about the wiring harness grommet on the firewall?

The previous owner put caulking around the wiring harness where it went into the fire wall. I thought it was out of laziness (it still was) but I tried to get a replacement grommet at my dealership today and they told me you can only get it with a full wiring harness.

The caulking has worked, but it isn't good if I plan on adding or removing wires. I want to go back to a grommet, but I don't know how you fit a grommet over something like a wiring harness.

And I am for sure adding wires for fog lights, and I would like to leave room for at least one additional circuit. What are my options?

You should be able to feed the connectors that go to the ECM through the grommet one by one. If you cannot buy the grommet new, I would go to your local junk yard and see if I could snag one off a wrecked truck.

I personally would just verify it's sealed thoroughly with silcone and route wires another way.. As a pile of water will run through that area when it rains

May be able to change the grommet I never looked into that option from PO poking holes into them.

I agree with others that a junk yard grommet would be your parts source if going that route.

I'd run a second grommet for all your aftermarket needs. If you are auto (and plan to stay that way), there is plenty of clear room right where the clutch master would otherwise go.

I will probably have issues with leaking anyway because I pulled loose (and disused) wires out of the firewall. So there is probably gaps in the caulking once filled with wires.

Are there aftermarket grommets I could use?

Looking like your after a junkyard grommet or someone with a parts rigs that have one. I am unaware of none. Maybe other users may know of aftermarket..

There are tons of options for grommets. Rubber ones, ones that tighten down on the wires, bulkhead connectors, etc.

As you have a 3rz, there is an easily accessible unused rubber plug up above the gas pedal. It’s a great place to run wires. You don’t have to mess with the factory harness, it doesn’t get wet, and a replacement plug can be had for nearly free at any junkyard. It’s a logical place to penetrate the firewall.
