Funny cuz those cars a actually less expensive than a comparably equipped Runner limited. I laugh at peeps that go and buy used POS Beemers and drive them around like they are "ballin." Not directed to the OP btw...
I've had BMW's, and Toyota trucks and SUV's. In comparing the two marques; The BMW's were great to drive, when something wasn't malfunctioning on them. The Toyota's were all dead reliable.
I still have a '97 4Runner that I bought new, that has had mostly just regular maintenance. The only things I've repaired in 14+ years of owning it are:
Starter Solenoid contacts
O2 Sensors (just in the last month)
Clutch hydraulic hose
Replaced headlight bulbs a few times, a couple taillight bulbs
That's it.
I never imagined when I bought the '97, that I'd still own it 14+ years later. But it's reliable and drives like the day I bought it. I can't bring myself to get rid of it, even if it is mostly just a winter driving vehicle these days.
I used to work as a Master Tech, and found back in the day that Toyota's were far more reliable than European or American cars. I have friends that work on all brands of cars currently, and they tell me that in their experience, that still applies today.
I personally wouldn't own any late model BMW out of warranty.

I think that's like comparing apples to oranges, both vehicles do completely different things. I'm personally considering 'consolidating' because although I have a great job, i want to bring down my debt and cut expenses as much as I can right now. It's tough because cars that drive like the bimmer (awd or rwd with all the fixing, great braking/handling) seem to be less reliable.
I was looking at an fx35...but they are just as crappy on fuel as the t4r.
Keept them bouth and then buy a yellow 95 Volvo and we can be twins.
Seriously I would just keep them. I got almost 100k on my BMW and the 4Runner just turned 100K on the way to work this morning. Volvo turned 200K last week. I plan to keep all three of them for a while and maintain them the best I can doing whatever I can do myself. I figure the 4Runner is good for well over 200K, but not sure about the BMW. I like taking turns driving the different cars because they feel so different from each other.

I don't understand the obsession with having a "new" car. Payments on whatever new car you buy will likely be less than the out of pocket cost of maintaining either of the rigs you have.
Personally, I'd sell the car and put the cash into maintenance and upgrades on the Runner. But then, I drive a gen1.

I would probably keep the Bimmer - more fun from a performance and handling standpoint. However, since you spent a good chunk of change on the 4Runner, I'd say keep both! haha

i should have rephrased...not brand new, but new enough so it has low miles and warranty still (1-2 yr old) something
