What should the RPM be when warmed up?

Hey guys, my RPM is sitting below 1 when warmed up, Is that normal or is it to low?... Sometimes sitting in the car it feels like its jerking.. Should I go to the dealership and get them to adjust it a little bit higher?

Below 1k is standard, once warmed up. Id say 700-800 rpm is pretty standard. I don't own a 5th gen, but on every vehicle I have owned - 600-800 was where most hung out.

When warming up, it will race a bit above 1k.

Jerky? Does the engine shoot up and down, or is it a transmission issue?

hmmm good question I dont know.. The best way to describe is it when the rpm drops down the car jerks...

When does it do it? Is it the transmission shifting? For example, 4th gen runners like mine, when you are going down a steep hill too fast (for the CPU); it will forcibly slow the vehicle. It can be very startling the first time it happens, as it literally feels like the tranny threw something...
You get used to it.


When a car is running out of gas, ever experienced this? I was a broke ass college kid and did more times than I care to admit. Well, anyway, when the car is running out of gas and the engine is just getting bits of fuel.. the car will jerk and the RPM gauge shoot down and then up a bit, as the fuel pump is able to get fuel to the engine..

lol yes thats what exactly wheat it feels like,,, it will shoot down then right back up instantly... but for me I have a full tank of gas so I dont think that could be the cause..

Could be a defective fuel pump. Been known to happen. That def. sounds odd. If you are talking about a 5th gen runner, you must be in warranty.

Roll it in and ask.

Normal for 5th Gens.
It's the AC clutch kicking in and out even when AC is'nt on.Brings the rpm's down to ~500 or so.
