what size tires after cornfed lift?

So...I'm thinking of what tires to get after my lift...I have the stock dunlops right now.....I DO NOT plan to go off road all the time...infact it will be pretty rare for the time being...but when I do...I'd like to have the tires that will perform. So...

I've heard nothing but REVO and BFG AT/KO and even these Nitto tires (whom I've never heard of)

I do NOT want 33s. Because I don't want to do trimming/cutting and I do want the decrease in MPG. My runner will be mostly a street driver.

32s will be fine.

so what tire should I look into that makes a 275/70 wtih my stock 17 inch rims?


also, whats the biggest tire I can stick in the spare area?


also what kind of performance decrease can I expect with 32s?

and gas mileage?

I believe Goodyear ATS makes a 275/70-17 which a couple of peeps have in this forum. There is another mfrgr that I saw in the Motor Trend magazine tire rack section that also makes 275/70-17's. I believe you will be most satisfied with this size tire. The only drawback is that I do NOT believe you can fit one in the spare tire compartment area.

New to the Forum, first post, don't even have a 4Runner yet, but I'm a jeep guy that will be converting in the spring after graduation. Yay salary!

Anyway, you could go with the Goodyear MT/R, which is OE on the Wrangler Rubicons. Great tire for a variety of terrain, decent on-road, obviously reliable enough to make OE, killer looks, variety of fits. Jeep folks like em well enough. Check them out on Tirerack.com

I'm already spinning up plans for when I get my Yota. I've been looking at an 04 SR5 V8. I would probably plan on lifting and upgrading the tires, and I think the MT/R is what I would go with.

You've trimmed with 265/70R17 Where? Why?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but 17x9 is a rim size where 9 is rims width and tires are usually wider then rims. He has 265/70 tires size same as I do, so overall dimensions should be the same.

Actually, the rim size will make quite a difference, especially with backspacing. A rim with less backspacing (typically aftermarket rims) will push the rim and tire further away from the vehicle. This will make the wider rim and tire come into contact with the outer edge of the flares during articulation.
It doesnt matter as much with Jeeps, which usually rub on the inside with wider tires, but their flares are easily modified to provide more clearance.

I can see where it would be a PITA in this circumstance, cutting and all. And who wants to cut up a nice vehicle anyway. Kind of a big step.

But yeah, the rims are going to make a difference.

I agree with you, but 1" difference ??? shouldn't make any difference. I'm going to run 275/70R17 MT/R as my off-road tires and I know that some guys here and in Yotatech didn't trim anything to fit them.

the combination of the 17x9 and the offset / backspacing will be crucial in whether or not you rub.

I've seen ppl pick up some 16x8's and get some weird offset/backspacing and rub like crazy so go figure.

Wheel spec makes a big difference in combination with the tire size itself.

lance is right ,the rim width was the difference.they rubbed while turning before i put the lift on. still have slight rubbing at full turn mostly when backin up.not much to worry about.the 4runner looks sweet though and i will try to post some pics.
