What TEMP does your AC blow at its coldest?

I was ignoring this thread because I just don't care about ac when I can roll down a window, but you guys were holding out on the drama! I should have known something was up when there was 2 pages about ac temperature

This thread! I'm not getting power to my blower control switch! &%$#!
Wish I could fix it myself.

I'll help you, but I need to know year and if it is auto (digital) or manual control. Post those back and then I'll start a thread for you because I don't think you have enough posts.

Sorry if that seemed arrogant.

I hate to see valued board members exchanging words. But sometimes physics reminds you that what you thought was a 1-dimensional problem really involves 3 or more dimensions. I find myself on either side of this sometimes and it's rarely pretty (but always educational).

Referring to the chart TheDurk posted, what controls the low and high pressure? Or are these output values that result from an AC system operating in an optimal fashion at a given Temp and RH condition?

OP,

i think the easiest way to compare A/C output temp with just a thermometer is to have the vehicles parked side by side then turn on the a/c to max cold and max blower speed, then measure the output temp. perhaps set a/c to recirc

The chart won't show up for me, but I would guess it's the refrigerant pressures on the high and low side of the system. Which is directly proportionate to the refrigerant temperature itself. It's how we know how much refrigerant to put into a system.
I do have my universal refrigerant license, although I'm an elevator mechanic by trade, so I'm not sure what this means for my credibility in this thread....... Just call me if you need your 4runner moved up or down!

P.s. I always appreciate the input of more knowledgeable members, it's why I visit these forums.

My $.02 Ziggy. System operating pressure is effected by ambient temps and amount of freon charge. You add or remove freon to have system pressures at chart values for a given ambient temp. RH and ambient temp effect how hard a system must work to remove the heat and humidity from said area. What A/C system does is remove heat and some humidity, hence you are left with a cool cabin. Subject is a deep one, if your interested in better understanding read some of the zillion web pages. this is short version.

They are optimal pressures at those conditions, assuming correct refrigerant charge and working mechanical parts, and what you will see as those output temps are achieved. I use them to help me charge partially charged systems back into usability. Pros will tell you you need to recover and recharge using a $3000 machine. I refuse to pay a shop to do that and so far, so good. You may not be so lucky, and no question the full recharge is preferable, but I've saved a lot of money and no dead systems to show for it.

Auto A/C existed a long time before they invented those $3000 machines.

I'm with TheDurk on the $3000 machine, but there are benefits to a full evac of system when pulled to a vacuum state. It gets the moisture out of system that develops over time that the drier as it ages fails to remove, moisture lowers system efficiency.

Speaking of Driers: If your nearing 200k or over 200k miles change it.
You will need that $3k machine to do it right.
A $20 part can save you the cost of a complete system, ask me how I know.
The drier has a desiccant cartridge in it that can break up into thousands of small pieces and screw complete system.

OP asked a simple and straightforward question and it can be answered very easily....

Bama my coldest reading today was 45.

See how easy that was.

Any question can be turned into a complicated mess! If he wants more info he can ask.

BamaDrewski, Today 41*F, Jackson, MS. area 85*F 83% RH, HI 92*F normal third coast weather right.

Back in May 70-80* 30-40% RH 37* output.

I'll play.

Yesterday it was 70* F, West Bend, WI. 67% RH and my AC temps at the vent was 30* F according to my IR gun.

Just last friday I took my truck to a friends shop and he hooked it up to one of those fancy AC machines. He vacuumed it down and said there was 1lb of freon in the system (so about a 1/2lb low). He filled it back up to spec and my AC was noticeably cooler afterwards.

I already knew I have a slight leak and have to refill every year. I used to use one of the low side only kits but I had zero confidence that I was ever putting in the correct mount. My buddy has always offered to let use the AC machine free of charge, I'll definitely continue to go that route every year if needed.

thegipper, pays to have friends right.

Charging a system using the site glass works if you know what your looking for.
If you can't see liquid flowing/internals of site glass, your drier is at the end of it's service life.

Thanks for the info man. I thought it was a simple and straightforward question as well but seems like it was engaged/ridiculed by characters personifying "The Big Bang Theory" on TV.

This is a forum and I like to get input from all the fine folks on here who are curious about things like this! Thanks again for the info man!

I love bamadrewski threads. It’s the same pattern over and over. Post something, get response, spends the rest of the time providing colorful and susinct “off your medication” responses.

Keep fighting the good fight obamadrewski

LOL. That's funny. I can assure you I am not on medication. Just was kind of surprised a simple question about "what temp does your AC blow at coldest" turned into a nerd parade of variables ranging from A-Z. LOL!

So you didn't like the way said it. Fine. Please write something that would be more sensitive. Or are you saying you preferred not to understand why performance of A/C systems varies? Who can dislike a dozen posts of varying output temps that mean absolutely nothing? Well, I can. I take pride in the quality of information offered on this forum and I do my best to reinforce it. If I see something that goes in the opposite direction, I say so.

Lots of people ask for my expertise. I'll just cross you off my list of those who want my help. Your loss.

I guess like anyone, I am devastated someone has crossed me off of his list. I will no longer benefit from his absolute and unquestionable expertise and knowledge when it comes to our beloved 3rd gen T4R’s!

Oh the humanity!!!!!

How in the world I have ever been able to even change the oil on my rig without this guy’s input/insight/instruction/opinion is beyond me. Per his quote; after all; “Lots of people ask for my expertise. I'll just cross you off my list of those who want my help. Your loss.” (No arrogance/narcissism there…after all, he only mentions “my” three times in two sentences…………)

Admittedly, I guess I just don’t appreciate his Einsteinesque and Godlike gift to this forum and the knowledge we should all benefit from. (Been on this forum for years and never needed it….) It’s a sad day for the world today……Forgive me Dear Leader if you decree/deem I am not worthy of your transcendent knowledge…..I will struggle to make it through the days ahead…..utterly crushed and shattered……..(LMAOROTF)
