What tire pressures for best gas mileage?

I have an 04 v6 4wd Limited. Came with firestone LE's. Wish they were AT's But they were new and I am not going to change soon. What is best pressure for best mileage?

I run 35 on stock tyres and managed 25 MPG on CA gas. Another trip this weekend, hope for the same.

You really should run the pressure that gives you even tire wear. Having said that there may be a window for higher PSI and still be able to get even wear, trial and error is the only way to tell for sure. I'm running 6 ply off brand A/T's and found that 32 psi not only looked low, but also gave my V8 much worse mileage. I aired them all up to 38.5 and found my mileage shot up 2-3 mpg! I have had very good/even wear so far, so I'll keep watching and measuring the tread depth and make sure I'm not wearing in the middle more than the outside. A few more PSI shouldn't hurt, but too much will lead to uneven wear. Watch closely to keep even wear. Good luck!

I presume they have P preceeding the tire size. If it happened to be LT, it's a different discussion.

Higher psi will give higher mileage but the returns start to diminish the higher you go. If it were me and I wanted mileage, I'd run about 36-37 psi. That's not too high and I wouldn't be surprised if the tires wore better than at 32psi. Over 40psi would unduly affect handling and safety for a meager additional mpg return.

I was running 39 but started to get middle tread wear. Ive since been running 37 and its wearing perfectly.

I run 36psi in all my tires and have good results.

38 PSI here for most highway driving. But if you're in the 33 to 40 range, you'll do just fine. I still get most of my wear on the inside of the tire, but we're talking <1mm difference after ~60k.

If you really want to affect your MPG, then you slow down.

55-60MPH yields me 22-24 MPG
60-65MPG nets me 20-24
65-70MPG drops it down to 17-20

Basically 62MPH is my sweet spot and then terrain factors in (e.g. Sierras to Sacramento or uphill to Tahoe).
