What to do...dump the Runner or not?

The main reason I am looking to pay it off is so I have that extra money per month for the extra expenses of owning a home. I know at some time I will need a new vehicle but I am hoping that won't be for awhile. When that time comes, my priorities will have changed and I'll have to see what is right for me at that time.

Just a thought, but if you're planning to buy a house the 4Runner will come in very handy. I know it did for me.

Hey! I resemble that remark!

When we bought our current house 5 years ago I was still driving my 1995 Honda Accord. We went over to Home Depot and bought a new Honda lawnmower. We had a helluva time getting it in the trunk and had to use bungie cords to keep the dang thing from falling out. Hauling stuff from HD has been MUCH easier since I bought my first 4Runner especially considering my wife loves to buy 20 bags of mulch at a time. Definitely time for an external "stuff" carrier.

I love when people come out of Home Depot with stuff and then try and get it in their sedans, sometimes with string or bungee cords. :bonk:

One day in the Home Depot parking lot I nearly lost it.
Someone driving a Nissan Murano was having a hard time fitting a few bags of peat moss in their vehicle.
I darn near dropped one of the dozen or so, 40lb bags of water softener salt I was loading into the 4Runner I was laughing so hard.
That is when I noticed that the Murano was not that big of a vehicle (with the rear seat up) when it comes to hauling stuff.

My 4Runner also makes it easy to haul around: my lawn mower, (2) snow blowers, 8 foot long 2x4s and a host of other home items.

I drove several other small cars thinking I needed something with better mileage. I quickly learned they were not for me. I will pay for the gas.

Thanks all for the thoughts. I am currently single and will be purchasing my first house for myself only. I do plan on getting a home that I can fix up a bit so I don't spend so much on it so the Runner will definately be nice to have. You guys gave me a lot to think about and I think my decision is going to be keeping it. I do like the Camry's a lot but think I will stick with what I got. When the Runner finally dies, hopefully a LONG time away, I'll cross that bridge. Unless gas gets to $10/gallon!
