What to do with a blown engine?

What happened with the 05? Is it rebuildable?
If not, find a recycler that will take it.

I agree things have really changed, i remember i helped a friend rebuild a 55 Chevy V8 in 55, we just threw away all the old bolting hardware along with the rocker arms camshaft and just bought everything new, the cost back then was very cheap.
For thouse who don't know the 55 Chevy had the first Chevy V8, before that they were all 6 inline cyl.s they were a game changer at the drag strips and on many streets.
Them good old days are gone forever, along with being allowed to walk around a salvage remove anything you wanted, pay for it "many times they just gave it to you" Yeah them good old days a gone.

What I was told was the water pump came apart causing the belt to slip timing...so on the 4.7L V8 engines which are interference engines the valve and piston collided. My guess is some valves bent and piston damage. This happened when I was going 70 mph.
I heard parts are still good and can be rebuilt but I did not have the time so I ended up with a replacement engine in my 4runner and have this giant paper weight sitting in the middle of my garage not sure what to do with it?

If you have the time, I would part it out. Looks like there's still a bunch of good stuff on there.

If you have time, pull the heads and see what's damaged? If you don't like what you see, part it out; otherwise rebuild it over a weekend or two and sell it as a rebuilt?
This is what you do because I did the exact same thing.
Remove heads, remove oil pan.
remove piston and rod that collided with head.
buy new piston and rod from Ebay for $40.
Take heads to good machine shop and have them remove the bent valves and guides and install new valves and guides. $300+
Purchase a bottle brush/ piston glaze remover from sears $30
Buy the correct gasket kit off ebay $108
Buy new oil nozzle at dealer from the one that broke off when the engine blew $28
Install new piston and rod you got from ebay
Install newly redone heads
Install new oil nozzle
reassemble engine using new seals
start engine
sell working engine for much, much more than it cost you to fix it.

I would love to but I am working on remodeling a house which will get me much more than rebuilding this engine.

Dont think so, I replied to your PM. I still think your engine is good. You need to get it somewhere to do diagnostics. Dont think you have to spend the money I did.

Just make sure you mention it's a partial rebuild and not a full rebuild... and you use good parts.
