I carry the tools required to replace a CV axle. I figure if I brake something worse then that I'm screwed anyway. All tools required to do a CV are the same required other minor repairs I have found.
I’d been carrying the same tool bag for years. It changed slightly with different rigs, but basically the same. The first time I broke an axle and tie rod, I completely changed my on-board kit, based on that experience. Now, every time I do anything major on my truck, I work out of that bag so I don’t miss anything. On my truck, it takes 4 fat women and a team of Clydesdales to remove my right CV axle, so I always carry a slide hammer.
I carry an impact, so I found a nice socket set, on amazon, that combines SAE and Metric sockets to save space and weight. I also got rid of the stuff that will never be used. BTW, the axle nut is 35mm, at least on my rig.
